Siempre fui dócil al ser reclamado
Para ser cauce de alguna quimera,
Aunque ese cauce tal vez no sirviera
Para achicar todo el cieno estancado.

Fui poco amigo de la desmesura
Porque es sabido que todo en la vida
Es, más que nada, cuestión de medida
Sin renegar de una buena cintura.

Y así compongo este poema
Correcto y comedido,
Quizás algo rendido
Al canon del esquema.

Por ello pido
No ser absuelto
Por no haber sido
Un verso suelto.

No puse en duda el respeto al contrario
Aún a sabiendas de que el veredicto
Sobre el poder y la calle en conflicto
Lo dicta siempre el ladrón del erario.

Nunca me he opuesto a la luz de la ciencia
Que alumbra todo lo desconocido,
Pero quisiera saber qué sentido
Tiene esta broma llamada existencia

A Loose Verse

I have always been submissive to those who made demands of me
To become a channel for some chimera,
Even though that channel might not serve
To drain all the stagnant filth.

I was never much for excess
Because it is well known that everything in life
Is, more than anything, a question of measure
Without renouncing a good waistline.

And so I compose this poem
Correct and restrained,
Perhaps somewhat surrendered
To the canon of the scheme.

For this reason, I ask
Not to be absolved
For not having been
A loose verse.

I have never questioned the respect for the contrary
Even though I am aware that the verdict
On the power and the street in conflict
Is always dictated by the thief of the treasury.

I have never opposed the light of science
That illuminates everything unknown,
But I would like to know what meaning
There is to this joke called existence
