Mandākinī salila chandana charchitāya
Nandīśvara pramathanātha maheśvarāya |
Mandāra mukhya bahupuśhpa supūjitāya
Tasmai "ma" kārāya namaḥ śivāya ‖2‖

śivāya gaurī vadanābja bṛnda
Sūryāya dakśhādhvara nāśakāya |
śrī nīlakaṇṭhāya vṛśhabhadhvajāya
Tasmai "śi" kārāya namaḥ śivāya ‖3‖

Vaśiśhṭha kumbhodbhava gautamārya
Munīndra devārchita śekharāya |
Chandrārka vaiśvānara lochanāya
Tasmai "va" kārāya namaḥ śivāya ‖4‖

YaGYa svarūpāya jaṭādharāya
Pināka hastāya sanātanāya |
Divyāya devāya digambarāya
Tasmai "ya" kārāya namaḥ śivāya ‖5‖

Pañchākśharamidaṃ puṇyaṃ yaḥ paṭhecChiva sannidhau |
śivalokamavāpnoti śivena saha modate ‖

To the three-eyed Nagendra
To the one adorned with ash, the great lord |
To the eternal, the pure, the formless
To Him, the "na" syllable, I bow, to Shiva ‖1‖

Bathed in the waters of the Mandakini and sandalwood
To the lord of Nandishvara and Pramathanatha |
Worshipped with many flowers, especially the Mandara
To Him, the "ma" syllable, I bow, to Shiva ‖2‖

Shiva, whose face is like a lotus blossom belonging to Gauri
To Sun, the destroyer of Daksha's sacrifice |
To the blue-throated one, the bull-bannered one
To Him, the "shi" syllable, I bow, to Shiva ‖3‖

Born of the water pot of Vasistha, Kumuda and Gautama,
Worshipped by the foremost sages and ascetics |
To the one whose eyes are the moon, the sun, and fire
To Him, the "va" syllable, I bow, to Shiva ‖4‖

To the form of sacrifice, the one with matted hair
The one who holds the Pinaka bow, the eternal one |
To the divine one, the formless one
To Him, the "ya" syllable, I bow, to Shiva ‖5‖

This five-syllabled mantra is sacred, who recites it in the presence of Shiva |
Will attain Shiva's world and rejoice with Shiva ‖
