Queremos que estés aquí Jesús,
No ser como el mesonero de Belén,
Ni ser como aquellos sabios creyendo tener Tu ley
Pero ciegos sin ver que aquel niño de doce años... era el rey.
Queremos que estés aquí Jesús,
No ser como aquellos otros de Nazaret,
Que habiéndote conocido no te podían admitir,
Como Tú bien dijiste, ningún profeta es querido... en su país.
Y no seria justo hablar juzgando su actitud,
Pues no somos nosotros hoy mejores,
La sola diferencia es que sus ojos estaban vendados
Y Tú, en Tu infinito amor te nos has revelado;
Y es por eso que hoy te recordamos con amor
Pues ya hubo contra Ti bastante odio,
Que ya hubo mucha gente que te oyó y te rechazó
Cerrando los oídos a Tu voz.
Quizá puedas recordar, Señor,
Haber sentido el rechazo con dolor,
Quizá en algún fariseo o interprete de la ley
O algún otro joven rico que amaba al dinero, más que a Ti.
Quizá puedas recordar también
A un grupo de pescadores, hombres de bien,
Algunas mujeres buenas, algún Nicodemo, también
Y hasta algún José de Arimatea algo tardío, pero fiel.
Si acaso hoy después de dos mil años otra vez
Mirándonos a solas te preguntes
¿Por cuántos he sufrido, por cuantos me he entregado?
¿Acaso me recuerdan o quizá me han olvidado?
Que seas hoy consciente del cariño y del amor
Que sigue profesándote tu pueblo
Pues ya que recibiste odio a cambio de tu amor
Que sepas que te amamos oh Señor.
Que sepas que en el siglo XX aun hay juventud
Que busca Tus caminos y que te ama
Y clama como aquellos del camino de Emaús

We want you to be here Jesus,
Not to be like the innkeeper of Bethlehem,
Or to be like those wise men who believed they had Your law
But blind without seeing that that twelve-year-old child... was the king.
We want you to be here Jesus,
Not to be like those others from Nazareth,
Who having known you could not admit it,
As you well said, no prophet is wanted... in his own country.
And it would not be fair to speak judging their attitude,
Because we are not better today,
The only difference is that their eyes were blindfolded
And You, in Your infinite love have revealed yourself to us;
And that is why today we remember you with love
As there was already enough hatred against You,
That there were already many people who heard you and rejected you
Closing their ears to Your voice.
Perhaps you can remember, Lord,
Having felt the rejection with pain,
Perhaps in some Pharisee or interpreter of the law
Or some other young rich man who loved money more than you.
Perhaps you can also remember
A group of fishermen, good men,
Some good women, some Nicodemus, too
And even a late, but faithful Joseph of Arimathea.
If today after two thousand years once again
Looking at ourselves alone you ask yourself
For how many have I suffered, for how many have I given myself?
Do they remember me or perhaps have they forgotten me?
May you be aware today of the affection and love
That your people still profess for you
As you received hatred in exchange for your love
May you know that we love you oh Lord.
May you know that in the 20th century there is still a youth
That seeks Your ways and that loves you
And cries out like those on the road to Emmaus
