Hi havia un jardí molt net, era la terra;
Que brillava, sencer, com un fruit protegit.

Hi havia un jardí, era un bosc, una casa,

There Was a Garden

There was a garden, very clean, it was the earth;
That shone, whole, like a protected fruit.
It was not any paradise, nor any misery,
Nor anything that had been seen anywhere else, but here.
There was a garden, it was a forest, a house,
With a bed of moss to make love;
And a very soft stream often passed by
And, following its course, carved everything.

There was a garden as big as a valley,
Full of good food in every season;
And, between the warm grass, between the frozen grass,
Flowers were discovered that had no name.

There was a garden, very clean, it was the earth;
Where boys and girls played in the sun,
As they had done equally in the past
Parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and more generations.
Where is that garden where we would all like to be born,
Where we could be naked and peaceful?
Where is that house with open doors,
That I seek and search for and cannot find anywhere?
