La Poupée

J'ai mis de la vie dans le corps transi d'une poupée de porcelaine
Un peu démodée, trop bien élevée, vêtue de lin, vêtue de laine.
Elle avait quinze ans, l'âge où les enfants ne s'amusaient plus avec elle.
Je suis adulte, je suis inculte, je ne sais rien de la marelle.

Quand elle a posé son corps de poupée
Contre le mien, dans une chambre
Elle ignorait tout de ce qui se joue
Dans la peau d'un corps qui se cambre.
Elle m'a rendu, silencieuse et nue, dans son maintien de bonne élève
Le goût d'apprendre, le goût d'attendre longtemps le matin qui se lève.

Il était grand jour quand j'ai fait l'amour
Avec l'enfant devenue femme.
Il était midi quand elle est partie avec un air de grande dame.
Elle m'a dit "Salut, ce que j'avais lu, tu m'en as montré l'existence."
Tu répétais "Amour, liberté", c'était aussi pour moi, je pense.

Elle a pris le train pour le long chemin semé de boue, semé d'embûches.
Tapie dans les draps, elle aura pris froid d'attendre qu'un amour débuche
Et, de loin en loin, je la voyais bien
Toujours en train, toujours en quête
Toujours perdue, toujours déçue, toujours en amour, toujours prête.

D'année en année, on s'est retrouvés quand l'un de nous était en peine.
On faisait l'amour et les mauvais jours ne finissaient pas la semaine.
On se racontait puis on se quittait en se disant qu'il fallait vivre
Pour se reprendre ou pour s'attendre au prochain chapitre du livre.

Je sais maintenant qu'elle a un enfant, un mari, confort et bien-être.
Elle n'a plus le temps, elle n'a plus d'amants.
Du moins, c'est ce que dit'sa lettre.
Mais moi, j'attendrai qu'elle en ait assez
Et qu'elle reprenne sa route
Qu'elle me revienne, qu'elle se souvienne
Et nous nous aimerons sans doute.

The Doll

I breathed life into the cold body of a porcelain doll
A little outdated, too well-bred, dressed in linen, dressed in wool.
She was fifteen, the age when children no longer played with her.
I am an adult, I am uncouth, I know nothing about hopscotch.

When she laid her doll's body
Against mine, in a bedroom
She knew nothing of what was at play
In the skin of a body that arches.
She gave me back, silent and naked, in her demeanor of a good student
The taste for learning, the taste for waiting a long time for the morning to rise.

It was broad daylight when I made love
With the child who had become a woman.
It was noon when she left with the air of a great lady.
She said to me, "Hi, what I had read, you showed me its existence."
You repeated "Love, freedom", it was also for me, I think.

She took the train for the long road strewn with mud, strewn with obstacles.
Crouched in the sheets, she would have caught a cold waiting for a love to break out
And from time to time, I saw her well
Always on the train, always on the quest
Always lost, always disappointed, always in love, always ready.

Year after year, we found ourselves again when one of us was in pain.
We made love and the bad days did not end the week.
We talked to each other and then we left each other, saying that we had to live
To recover or to wait for the next chapter of the book.

I know now that she has a child, a husband, comfort and well-being.
She no longer has the time, she no longer has lovers.
At least, that's what her letter says.
But I will wait until she has had enough
And that she takes her route again
That she comes back to me, that she remembers
And we will undoubtedly love each other.
