Что ж, буду жить, приемля как условье,
Что ты верна. Хоть стала ты иной,
Но тень любви нам кажется любовью.
Не сердцем - так глазами будь со мной.
Твой взор не говорит о перемене.
Он не таит ни скуки, ни вражды.
Есть лица, на которых преступленья
Чертят неизгладимые следы.
Но, видно, так угодно высшим силам:
Пусть лгут твои прелестные уста,
Но в этом взоре, ласковом и милом,
По-прежнему сияет чистота.

Sonnet of the Apple

Oh, I will live, accepting the condition,
That you are faithful. Though you have become another,
But the shadow of love seems like love to us.
Not with your heart - then with your eyes be with me.
Your gaze does not speak of change.
It hides neither boredom nor hostility.
There are faces on which crimes
Draw unerasable traces.
But, apparently, it is the will of the higher powers:
Let your lovely mouth lie,
But in this gaze, gentle and sweet,
Purity still shines.
