يا امي ما شكل السماء وما الضياء وما القمر
بجمالها تتحدثون ولا ارى منها أثر
هل هذه الدنيا ظلام في ظلام مستمر
يا امي مدي لي يديكي عسى يزايلني الدجر
امشي اخاف تعثراً وسط النهار او السحر
لا اهتدي في السير ان طال الطريق وان قصر
امشي احاذر ان يصادفني اذا اخطو خطر
والارض عندي يستوي منها البسائط والحفر
عكازتي هي ناظري هل فيه جماد من نظر
يجري الصغار ويلعبون ويرتعون ولا ضرر
وانا ضرير قاعد في عقر داري مستقر
الله يلطغ بي ويصرف ما اقاسي من كدر

Al-Darir

My mother, what does the sky look like? What is light? What is the moon?
You speak of their beauty, but I see not a trace of it.
Is this world a darkness in perpetual darkness?
My mother, extend your hands to me, perhaps they will dispel my blindness.
I walk in fear of stumbling, whether it be noon or dawn.
I find no direction in my path, whether it be long or short.
I walk cautiously, fearing that I may encounter danger with each step.
And to me, the earth is one and the same, whether plains or pits.
My cane is my guide, but can a mere object truly see?
The children run and play and frolic, free from harm.
But I, a blind man, sit confined within the walls of my home.
May Allah have mercy on me and relieve me of the distress that I endure.
