Είχα μι'αγάπη από παιδί
γιά κάποια καφενεία
που ήταν κοντά στη θάλασσα
και βλέπαν ουρανούς.
Που είχαν καλάμια στη σκεπή
και μέσα, στη γωνία
ένα σβηστό γραμμόφωνο
γιά να σου φεύγει ο νους.

Χρόνια ζητώ να πιώ καφέ
σε τέτοια καφενεία
ν'ακούγονται τα κύματα
σα να'ναι μουσική.
Να βρω πως είν' η θάλασσα
σ'αυτή την ιστορία
σε καφενεία που γερνούν
κοντά της μιά ζωή.

Τα' φερε ανάποδα ο καιρός
κι άλλαξε σ'όλα κάτι
κι αναβολή σ'αναβολή
δεν βρήκα αυτό το απλό.
Ένα παραθαλάσσιο
μικρό καφενεδάκι
που να με κάνει μιά στιγμή
γλυκά να ξεχαστώ.

In the Waterfront Cafe

I had a love from childhood
for some cafes
that were close to the sea
and gazed at the skies.
That had reeds on the roof
and inside, in the corner
a turned-off gramophone
to make you lose your mind.

Years, I've been trying to have coffee
in such cafes
to hear the waves
as if they were music.
To find how the sea is
in this story
in cafes that grow old
by its side, all their life.

Time turned things upside down
and changed something in everything
and postponement after postponement
I didn't find this simple thing.
A seaside
small coffee shop
that would make me, for a moment
forget myself sweetly.
