When I gaze at my twilight evening with the eye of the goblet
Adab itself forces the stars to salute me
Why should I not adorn this caravanserai of the heart
For here, beautiful travellers make their abode
How shall I comfort my heart
When it finds no repose
How shall I make my tearful eyes understand
When you do not appear before them
I am the smoke of an extinguished candle
Returning to my source
For the desire of the heart has been extinguished
Now, I am effacing my own existence
To see your beloved countenance
I am bringing forth the images of idols
For by combining the beauties of all
I am forming an image of you
I have veiled myself in a shroud
So that your modesty may not be offended
Having made a mask for myself
I am lifting your veil
Love is the nature of man
How is it possible to abandon love?
I remember them all the more
The more I try to forget them
My tongue always says Labbaik in every breath
On my forehead, there is prostration at every step
Thus, I go to the temple of idols, O preacher
As if I were going to the Ka'bah
