Even if you take a hundred dips.
Going to Gaya won't cleanse your sins,
Even if you study a hundred scriptures.
Bulleh Shah, your sins are only cleansed,
When you lose yourself in your beloved's heart.

I haven't performed rituals or prayers,
Nor have I bathed in the Ganges.
I haven't prayed the five daily prayers,
Nor have I held the rosary.
I haven't fasted for thirty days,
Nor have I wandered in seclusion.
Bulleh Shah found a true master,
Who forgave me just like that.

By studying scriptures, scholars become wise,
But they never study their own selves.
They go to temples and mosques,
But they never build a place of worship within.
They fight daily with the devil,
But they never fight against their own desires.
Bulleh Shah, heavenly birds fly,
But those who stay at home never take flight.

The sheikhs stay awake all night and pray,
But dogs also stay awake all night.
Don't just bark all night,
Go and wake up those who are asleep in the dust.
Don't leave your beloved's door,
Even if you get beaten a hundred times.
Bulleh Shah, wake up and appease your beloved,
Or else the dogs will take her away from you.

If you want to please God, first please your beloved,
God knows it's harder to please your beloved.

In front of your beautiful beloved, this existence is nothing, if you can't please your beloved.
Then break your rosary, you can't recite the prayers if you can't please your beloved.

Mullah, don't preach to me, let me appease my beloved.
Let me become a dancing girl, my honor won't diminish if I can please my beloved.
People consider love worthless, let me wear it as a garland around my neck.
Bulleh Shah, let them say what they want, let me fulfill my own path.

God won't be angry, by God's grace, if you try to appease your beloved.
What's the point of going to Mecca, if your eyes are fixed on your beloved?
Forget about rituals and prayers, long prayers have no use here.
Dancing becomes worship, if you have the passion to dance.

After all the charity and donations, the grief of separation remains, so I dance.
But when the Beloved appears, I dance before them.
So every moment, I sing a melody, and every time, I dance.
If you come late, Beloved, I'll keep dancing, for you, I dance.
Tell the world to watch, let my heart have its way, I'm a lover.
With the tools of disgrace, I dance in the marketplace.
Come, killer, today I offer the spectacle of my bleeding heart.
I swear by my heart, with this bloody dagger, I dance.
Happy to see the Beloved, I'll sacrifice myself for their pleasure.
Sometimes I'll keep piety and sometimes the turban of the dervish, I dance.
I'm the sky of Haroon, the friend of Sheikh Mansoor.
Don't consider me insignificant, with a heart full of wounds, I dance.
