A Bird Flew Out of the Window

A bird flew out of the window, and it said to me, "Little one,"

I said to it, "Where are you from?" It said, "From the edge of the sky."
I said to it, "Where are you coming from?" It said, "From my neighbor's house."
I said to it, "Who are you afraid of?" It said, "I escaped from my cage."
I said to it, "Where are your feathers?" It said, "Time has scattered them."
A bird flew out of the window, and it said to me, "Little one,"

A tear fell down its cheek, and its wings were broken.
And it landed on the ground and said, "I want to go, but I can't."
I pressed it to my heart, and it began to cry over its wounds.
Before it could break free, its voice and its wings were broken.
I said to it, "Where are you from?" It said, "From the edge of the sky."

It saw the forest soaring on wings of freedom.
