أراك عصي الدمع،شيمتك الصبـــــر
أما للهوى نهي عليك ولا أمرُ؟
نعم انا مشتاق وعندى لوعة
ولكن مثلى لا يذاع له سر
إذا الليــل أضواني بسطت يـد الهوى
وأذللت دمعا من خلائقه الكبرُ
تكــاد تضيء النــار بين جوانحـــــى
إذا هى أذكتها الصبابة والفكرُ
معللتى بالوصل والموت دونه
اذا مت ظمأنا فلا زال القطر
وفيت وفى بعض الوفاء مذلــة
لفاتنه في الحي شيمتها الغــدرُ
تسألنــى:"مـن أنـت؟"وهـي علـيمــة
وهل بشجى مثلي على حاله نُكرُ؟
فقلت كما شاءت وشاء لها الهوى
قتيلك!!. قالت: أيهم؟ فهم كثرُ
وقلبت أمرى لا أرى لى راحة
اذا البين انسانى ألح بيا الهجر
وقالت لقد اسرى بك الدهر بعدنا
فقلت معاذ الله بل انت لا الدهر

Is it that love is not forbidden or commanded for you?
Yes, I yearn with an ache in my heart
But one like me keeps secrets close
When the night deepens, I extend the hand of love
And humble a tear, softened by love's power
A fire almost ignites within me
When longing and reflection fan its flames
My heart is filled with hope for union, but death stands in the way
If I die of thirst, let the dew forever fall
I have fulfilled my promise, but loyalty can be demeaning
For a coquette known for treachery
She asks me, "Who are you?" though she knows well
Can such sorrow as mine be hidden?
And so I said, as she wished and love decreed
Your victim!" She replied, "Which one? There are many."
And I pondered my fate, finding no respite
As separation gnaws at me, abandonment pressing
And she said, "Time has aged you since we parted"
I replied, "God forbid! It is you, not time"
