Entre el humo y copas de champagne,
Hay una almita afligida
Que se esconde por llorar.
Atraído por su pena
Mi pañuelo lágrimas secó,

She turned her face into my palm,
Her pain gently caressing.
Her broken sobs I heard,
She whispered low, "A man deceived me."
I said, "Forget your past,
Forget all about yesterday.
Do not mourn if he has not shed tears,
Or given a thought to the woman who suffers."

Something in her gaze
Needed no interpreting,
Dreams extinguished,
Hatred and a thirst for revenge.
She spoke then, that her life
Had turned from passion to pain.
She recalled days of happiness
And her honor and innocence.

My heart was wounded by her anguish,
And I felt weakened,
When she revealed her locket
And showed that the deceiver was there.
With sorrow in her eyes, she saw
That I shared her pain.
She adorned her lips with paint,
And smiled for me.
