Sueño del Retorno

Al mar eché un poema
Que llevó con él mis preguntas y mi voz
Como un lento, barco se perdió en la espuma

Le pedí que no diera la vuelta
Sin haber visto el alta mar
Y en sueños, hablar conmigo de lo que vio

Aún si no volviera
Yo sabría si llegó

Viajar la vida entera
Por la calma azul o en tormentas zozobrar
Poco importa el modo si algún puerto espera

Aguardé tanto tiempo el mensaje
Que olvidé volver al mar
Y así yo perdí aquel poema
Grité a los cielos todo mi rencor
Lo hallé por fin, pero escrito en la arena
Como una oración

El mar golpeó en mis venas
Y libró mi corazón

Song of the Return

I poured a poem into the sea
That carried my questions and my voice away with it
Like a slow, boat disappeared into the foam

I asked him not to turn around
Without seeing the open sea
And in my dreams, talk to me about what he saw

Even if he didn't come back
I would know if he arrived

Traveling my whole life
In the blue calm or in storms
It doesn't matter how if a port awaits

I waited so long for the message
That I forgot to return to the sea
And so I lost that poem
I shouted my anger at the heavens
I finally found it, but written in the sand
Like a prayer

The sea pounded in my veins
And freed my heart
