Il generale Annibale, partito da Cartagine
Vuol conquistare Roma, acerrima rivale
Per diventare una celebrità.
Ma va!

Le Alpi si avvicinano,
Eccole là!
Il condottiero ordina:
"In riga!"
Avanti con le truppe, ma il valico è bloccato
Son tutti fermi, avanti non si va!
Per Giove, cosa mai sarà?
C′è un elefante fermo nel bel mezzo della strada:
"Dai, muoviti bestione che la guerra devo far!"

"Eh no! Eh no!", gli dice Aristide
E scuote la proboscide per confermare il no!
"Son giorni che marciamo, marciamo e digiuniamo,
Procurami un panino che non ce la faccio più!"
"Perciò, perciò", conferma Aristide,
"Da qui io non mi sposto, non faccio un metro in più.
Ma guardati un po' intorno, non vedi che è un bel giorno,
Invece della guerra organizziamo un bel pic-nic!"
Aristide sei forte, sei tutti noi!

Ormai tutto l′esercito rifiuta di procedere
E dice al generale: "Aristide ha ragione,
Ma cosa mai ci stiamo a fare qua!"
Eh già!
E' stupefatto Annibale,
Ooohhh!
E pensa: "Ho le traveggole!"
Aaaahhh!
"Vergogna! Tradimento! Che grosso fallimento
Per colpa di quell'elefante là!
Per Giove me la pagherà!
Balordo pachiderma, guarda cosa hai combinato,
Per colpa tua, la guerra non la posso fare più!"

"Meglio così", gli dice Aristide
E scuote la proboscide per confermare il sì!
"Combattere battaglie, è poco salutare
Vuoi mettere il piacere di gustarsi un bel babà!"
"Perciò perciò", conferma Aristide,
"Da qui io non mi sposto, non faccio un metro in più.
Ma guardati un po′ intorno, non vedi che è un bel giorno
Invece della guerra organizziamo un bel pic-nic!"
Aristide sei forte, sei tutti noi!

"Va là! Va là! Mio caro Annibale,
Su datti una calmata e non pensarci più.
Mio caro generale, impara la morale,
Vuoi proprio far la guerra? E allora fattela un po′ tu!

General Hannibal, leaving Carthage,
Wants to conquer Rome, his bitter rival,
To become a celebrity.

The Alps are approaching,

The commander orders:
"In line!"
Forward with the troops, but the pass is blocked,
They are all stopped, they can't go forward!

There's an elephant stuck in the middle of the road:
"Come on, move beast, I have to go to war!"

And shakes his trunk to confirm the no!
"We've been marching for days, marching, and fasting,
Get me a sandwich, I can't take it anymore!"

"I'm not moving from here, I'm not going a step further.
But look around you, don't you see it's a nice day,
Instead of war, let's organize a nice picnic!"

Now the whole army refuses to proceed,
And says to the general: "Aristides is right,
What the hell are we doing here!"
Indeed!
Hannibal is amazed,
Ooohhh!
And thinks: "I'm seeing things!"

"Shame! Treason! What a great failure,
Because of that elephant over there!
By Jove, he'll pay for it!
