I miei fratelli e io amiamo profondamente il bosco
L'odore del muschio, il fruscio delle foglie, la solitudine
Siamo una vera grande famiglia

Nella mia vita tutto filava liscio
Fino a quando non ho incontrato Cappuccetto Rosso
I miei fratelli la chiamavano così, perché era solita aggirarsi sola nel bosco
Col suo cappottino rosso, con un bel cappuccio grande in testa
E il cesto della merenda appeso al braccio che portava a sua nonna
Tutti i sabato pomeriggio
Ma quel sabato per me fu davvero sfortunato

I miei fratellini mi avevano chiesto di accompagnare Cappuccetto Rosso fino a casa di sua nonna
Perché avevano visto aggirarsi nei paraggi degli uomini armati di fucile: i cacciatori

La cosa non mi andava molto a genio
In più, dopo soli tre giorni sarebbe stato il compleanno di Lulù, la mia amata fidanzata
E avevo in programma di andare da Trippo e Lillo, gli scoiattoli falegnami
A prenotare il regalo di compleanno per lei
Una sedia a dondolo su misura con le sue iniziali incise sopra
Ma per colpa di Cappuccetto Rosso, hehe, avevo il sabato rovinato

Dunque, fatemi ricordare bene
Alle nove mi siedo sul ceppo all'ingresso del bosco
Ma si vede che quella mattina se l'era presa comoda, Cappuccetto
Perché alle dieci ancora non s'era vista
Allora mi viene il dubbio che, essendomi appisolato quei dieci minuti
Potrei non averla vista arrivare
Che stupido lupo peloso che sono!
I miei fratelli mi taglieranno la cosa se le è successo qualcosa

E allora mi affretto e provo a cercare le sue tracce
Annuso di qua, annuso di là, "bleah, che schifo!"
Un coniglio ha appena fatto una montagna di palline puzzolenti
Allora seguo il sentiero che solitamente Cappuccetto fa per raggiungere la sua dolce nonnina
Dolce per modo di dire, non fa altro che borbottare tutto il giorno
E prima con le lumache che le mangiano l'insalata
E poi con gli uccellini che portano via i semi, e le rane che fanno "cra, cra"
Ma dico io, ma non poteva restare a vivere in paese come tutte le altre vecchiette del mondo?

Cammino per un po' ed avverto degli spari, molto vicini
I cacciatori! Stanno ancora disturbando la quiete del nostro bosco
Spari, spari, e ancora spari!
Poi rumori di foglie, animaletti che scappano, corrono, cercano riparo
Arrivo a casa della nonna e vedo le persiane ancora chiuse
Che strano, è sempre così mattiniera la nonnina

Si alza a rompere le scatole agli scoiattoli fin dalle prime luci del mattino
Guarda l'orto, sistema i fiori, borbotta e sveglia tutti gli animali che d'inverno se ne vanno in letargo
A un certo punto avverto un piccolo rumore dall'interno
Come un colpo di tosse e un fruscio
Guardo ancora, ma nulla
Se avessi una bella voce, proverei a chiamarla
Ma con questo vocione finirei con lo spaventarla a morte
Oddio, e se si fosse sentita male, eh?
E se fosse caduta e avesse perso i sensi, la nonnina?
Non posso certo star qui con le zampe nelle zampe
Decido allora di dare una sbirciatina dalla porta d'ingresso
Giro la manopola... la porta è aperta!

Infilo appena il naso, ma essendo così lungo, è come se avessi messo tutto il muso dentro casa
Aaaaah! Mi arriva una padellata! Dritta dritta sulla testa
E poi urla, calci, pugni. La nonnina, pensando che fossi un ladro si era nascosta dietro l'armadio
E aveva pensato bene di catturarmi
Inutile provare a spiegarle la ragione della mia visita
Sembrava Capitan Uncino con le tarantole nelle scarpe
Non ho scelta, l'unico modo per fermarla è... inghiottirla
Senza ferirla. Farne un unico e solo boccone
E tenerla nella pancia fino a quando non decide di ascoltare ciò che ho da dirle
Allora "glup", la ingoio. Con velocità, così che lei non possa sentire dolore, ma solo il calore del mio stomaco
Anche se nella pancia, quella continua dibattersi
Come un pipistrello gira, rigira, rigira. Gira, rigira, cerca di uscire, urla
Oooh, che mal di pancia insopportabile
Nell'attesa che si calmi un po'
Mi sdraio sul letto per farmi un bel pisolino e farmi passare questo mal di pancia

Ma ecco che in quel momento esatto entra Cappuccetto Rosso

Cappuccetto si avvicina, mi guarda, io guardo lei
Lei guarda me, io riguardo lei
Però, bella bambina. Un viso simpatico, occhi espressivi, guance tonde
Mica come quelle due bamboline insignificanti di Biancaneve e Cenerentola
A un certo punto cappuccetto mi fa una specie di interrogatorio
"Che occhi grandi che hai", "Che orecchie grandi che hai"
E poi le mani, e i piedi, e che cavolo!
E non sarò il principe azzurro, ma anch'io in quanto lupo ho il mio fascino

Poi, tutta concentrata mi guarda il muso e dice: "Che bocca grande che hai"
E con tono di voce rassicurante le rispondo: "Per mangiare meglio"
Ma lei credo che capisca tutta un'altra cosa
Ha capito "Per mangiarti meglio", e si mette a urlare anche lei
Come il mio amico Johnny Tacchino, quando vince a poker
Allora, allora mi alzo di scatto per cercare di calmare anche lei
Mentre la nonna dentro la mia pancia si scatena e grida, grida che vuole uscire anche lei

Ma ecco che arriva lui, Arcimboldo Cacciatore
Che non avendo compinato un cavolo tutta la mattina nel bosco vestito come Rambo, che fa?
Sfodera un coltello tutto arrugginito e pensa bene di tagliarmi la panciaaaaaah
Un male pazzesco! Aah. Ma almeno, almeno mi libera da quell'indemoniata della nonna
Che mi aveva attorcigliato le budella

Quando mi sveglio non riesco a credere ai miei occhi
Sono nel letto della nonna, con un filo rosa che mi chiude la pancia
Una cuffietta di pizzo, le calzine con i fiocchetti, orrore!
Pure le mutandine! No, le mutandine no!
Ma cosa ho fatto di male per meritarmi tutto questo
Io sono il lupo! Se mi vedessero i miei fratelli con le miutandine addosso e la cuffietta in testa
Sarei spacciato, mi prenderebbero in giro finché campo

"Ti ho prestato i miei vestiti"
Disse la nonna, finalmente tornata normale
"Perché mi hai mangiato?"
Per non farti gridare, risposi io. Io non volevo farti del male
Lo vedi, io sono un lupo buono e vorrei che si sapesse in giro, sono un lupo gentile, sai?
E comunque, piacere. Mi chiamo Filippo.
La nonnina allora mi strinse la zampa, e dai suoi occhi capii che aveva deciso di darmi fiducia
Iniziammo così ad incontrarci per il tè delle cinque, e diventammo buoni amici
Scoprimmo anche di essere entrambi bravi cuochi
E presi da un momento di follia, decidemmi di aprire "Lupo dolce", un negozio di biscotti e marmellate

Come vi dicevo all'inizio della storia, io sono il lupo
O almeno così mi chiamani gli altri
Ma da molti mesi ormai il mio nome non fa pensare più alla paura e al terrore
Ma solo a dolcetti e a cose buone da mangiare

The Wolf Doesn't Exist

I'm the wolf, or at least that's what others call me,
My real name is Filippo.
I'll be six years old in a few days.
I'm the youngest of five brothers, all boys,
And I'm certainly not the pride of my parents,
Who dreamed of a future for me as a courageous wolf.
They are, they live in a pack, they love night raids,
They are silent, agile, always alert to danger:
Cages, traps and men.
My brothers and I deeply love the woods,
The smell of moss, the rustling of leaves, the solitude.
We are a truly great family.

Everything in my life was going smoothly
Until I met Little Red Riding Hood.
My brothers called her that, because she used to wander alone in the woods
With her little red coat, with a nice big hood on her head
And the lunch basket hanging from her arm, which she brought to her grandmother
Every Saturday afternoon.
But that Saturday was really unlucky for me.

My little brothers had asked me to accompany Little Red Riding Hood to her grandmother's house
Because they had seen men armed with rifles prowling around: the hunters.

I didn't like the idea very much.
Plus, it was only three days until my beloved girlfriend Lulu's birthday,
And I was planning on going to Trippo and Lillo, the carpenter squirrels,
To book her birthday present:
A custom-made rocking chair with her initials engraved on it.
But because of Little Red Riding Hood, hehe, my Saturday was ruined.

So, let me remember well:
At nine o'clock I sit on the stump at the entrance to the woods,
But you can see that Little Red Riding Hood took her time that morning,
Because at ten o'clock she still hadn't shown up.
Then I get the doubt that, having dozed off for those ten minutes,
I might not have seen her arrive.
What a stupid hairy wolf I am!
My brothers will cut my thing off if anything happened to her.

So I hurry up and try to look for her tracks.
I sniff here, I sniff there, "bleah, disgusting!"
A rabbit has just made a mountain of smelly balls.
Then I follow the path that Little Red Riding Hood usually takes to reach her sweet little grandmother.
Sweet to say, she does nothing but grumble all day long,
First with the snails that eat her lettuce,
And then with the birds that carry away the seeds, and the frogs that go "croak, croak".
But I say, couldn't she have stayed in the village like all the other old ladies in the world?

I walk for a while and I hear gunshots, very close.
The hunters! They're still disturbing the peace of our woods.
Shots, shots, and more shots!
Then the sounds of leaves, little animals escaping, running, seeking shelter.
I arrive at Grandma's house and I see the shutters are still closed.
That's strange, Grandma's always such an early riser.

She gets up to bother the squirrels from the first light of dawn,
She looks at the garden, arranges the flowers, grumbles and wakes up all the animals that hibernate in winter.
At one point I hear a small noise from inside,
Like a cough and a rustle.
I look again, but nothing.
If I had a nice voice, I'd try calling her,
But with this big voice of mine, I'd end up scaring her to death.
Oh my God, what if she felt ill, huh?
What if she fell and lost consciousness, Grandma?
I can't just stand here with my paws in my paws.
So I decide to take a peek from the front door.
I turn the knob... the door is open!

I just stick my nose in, but since it's so long, it's like I put my whole face inside the house.
Aaaaah! A frying pan hits me! Straight on the head!
And then she screams, kicks, punches. Grandma, thinking I was a thief, had hidden behind the wardrobe
And had thought it well to capture me.
It's no use trying to explain to her the reason for my visit.
She looked like Captain Hook with tarantulas in his shoes.
I have no choice, the only way to stop her is... to swallow her.
Without hurting her. Make her one single bite
And keep her in my belly until she decides to listen to what I have to tell her.
So, "gulp", I swallow her. Quickly, so that she can't feel any pain, but only the warmth of my stomach.
Even in my belly, she keeps thrashing about.
Like a bat she turns and turns and turns. Turns and turns, tries to get out, screams.
Ooh, what an unbearable stomach ache!
While I wait for her to calm down a bit,
I lie down on the bed to take a nice nap and get over this stomach ache.

But here at that precise moment Little Red Riding Hood enters.
What the hell, is it all on me today?
Little Red Riding Hood approaches, looks at me, I look at her.
She looks at me, I look back at her.
However, beautiful child. A nice face, expressive eyes, round cheeks.
Not like those two insignificant little dolls Snow White and Cinderella.
At one point Little Red Riding Hood gives me a kind of interrogation:
"What big eyes you have", "What big ears you have".
And then the hands, and the feet, what the hell!
And I may not be Prince Charming, but as a wolf, I have my own charm, too.

Then, all focused, she looks at my face and says: "What a big mouth you have."
And in a reassuring tone of voice I reply: "To eat better".
But I think she understands something completely different.
She understood "To eat you better", and she starts screaming too.
Like my friend Johnny Turkey, when he wins at poker.
So, so I jump up to try and calm her down too,
While Grandma inside my belly goes wild and shouts, shouts that she wants to get out too.

But here comes Arcimboldo Hunter.
Having not done a damn thing all morning in the woods dressed like Rambo, what does he do?
He pulls out a rusty knife and thinks it's a good idea to cut my belly open!
An excruciating pain! Aah. But at least, at least he frees me from that demon Grandma
Who had twisted my guts.

I faint.
When I wake up, I can't believe my eyes.
I'm in Grandma's bed, with a pink thread closing my belly.
A lace bonnet, socks with bows, horror!
Even panties! No, not panties!
What did I do wrong to deserve all this?
I'm the wolf! If my brothers saw me wearing panties and a bonnet on my head,
I'd be done for, they'd make fun of me until the day I die.

"I lent you my clothes,"
Said Grandma, finally back to normal.
"Why did you eat me?"
To stop you from screaming, I replied. I didn't mean to hurt you.
You see, I'm a good wolf and I want everyone to know, I'm a kind wolf, you know?
And anyway, nice to meet you. My name is Filippo.
Grandma then shook my paw, and from her eyes I understood that she had decided to trust me.
So we started meeting for five o'clock tea, and became good friends.
We also discovered that we are both good cooks,
And in a moment of madness, we decided to open "Sweet Wolf", a shop selling biscuits and jams.

As I told you at the beginning of the story, I am the wolf,
Or at least that's what others call me.
But for many months now my name no longer evokes fear and terror,
But only sweets and good things to eat.
