Quand je vois tous ces parisiens
Se crever gagner trois fois rien
Habitant des cages à lapins

On me dit plus radin que brave
J'ai trois cents hectares de betteraves

C'est pas cher c'est vaillant et c'est toujours gai
Les bonnes années je dis que c'est moyen
Quand c'est moyen je dis que c'est mauvais
Pour un paysan la modestie
C'est de faire croire étant gros que c'est un petit

A la moindre calamité
On perçoit des indemnités
Si le prix du maïs est bas
On défile on proteste on nous la fait pas
Aux élections naturellement
On a des primes d'encouragement
Comment qu'on nourrirait le bétail
Cent moutons autant de vaches je compte pas la volaille

J'ai dû épouser sur le tard
Ma cousine qui a deux cents hectares
Elle était pourtant pas jojo
Mais la terre mon vieux dit qu'y en a jamais trop
On ne mange que nos fruits gâtés

Living in rabbit hutches
I tell myself that it's nice
To have been born a farmer
When it rains I stay in bed
In the shade when it's too hot
And in the winter when the clods freeze
I take my skis, my car and go to Courchevel

They say I'm more stingy than brave
I have three hundred hectares of beets
Luckily I have my Portuguese
They're cheap, they're hardworking, and they're always cheerful
In good years I say it's average
When it's average I say it's bad
For a farmer, modesty
Is to pretend to be small when you're big
