Lecz wielu twierdzi, że to tylko plotka
Pod ich rządami można żyć - to też są ludzie
A ich prostota zdrowa, konopna i rumiana
Ożywi Rzym tonący w lenistwie i nudzie
Idą barbarzyńcy, nikt ich nie pokona
Chcą świat antyczny mieczem aż do trzewi przeryć
Ryk ich budzi grozę, cuchną ich imiona,
Atylla, Odoaker, Witigez, Genzeryk.

A w Rzymie nie chcą wiedzieć, który z nich się zbliża
Ospałej myśli nic już nie porwie do buntu
Wiec trawią dni i noce na biustach kurtyzan
Lub piszą podręczniki miłosnego kunsztu
Idą barbarzyńcy straszni, skośnoocy
Chęć walki prędko mdleje na odgłos ich kroków
Nie ma co się bronić, zewsząd brak pomocy
A przecież zawsze lepszy od wojny jest pokój

Więc pieśćmy uszy dźwiękiem eleganckich wierszy
Lub wierzmy w duchy, czary i różdżki magiczne
W mądrości wschodnie wgryźmy się albo powiększmy
Adeptów astrologii zgromadzenia liczne
Tak właśnie my, Rzymianie, spoglądajmy w gwiazdy
Tam swój horoskop może znaleźć nasze plemię
Niebieskie konstelacje niechaj tropi każdy
Kto nie chce dzisiaj patrzeć na zhańbiona ziemię

Barbarians

But many claim it's just a rumour
You can live under their rule - they are people too
And their healthy, hemp-like and rosy simplicity
Will revive Rome, drowning in laziness and boredom

Or write manuals of the art of love
Barbaric, fearful, slanty-eyed
The will to fight quickly fades at the sound of their steps
There is nothing to defend, there is no help anywhere
But peace is always better than war

Immerse ourselves in Eastern wisdom or increase the
