بکھرنا بھی ضروری تھا

بتاؤ یاد ہے تم کو
وو جب دل کو چرایا تھا
چوری چیز کو تھمنے
خدا کا گھر بنایا تھ
وو جب کہتے تھے
میرا نام تم تسبیح میں پڑھتے ہو
محبت کی نمازوں کو
قرا کرنے سے ڈرتے ہو
مگر اب یاد آتا ہے
وو باتیں تھی محاذ باتیں
کہیں باتوں ہی باتوں میں
مکرنا بھی ضروری تھا
تیری آنکھوں کے دریا کا
اترنا بھی ضروری تھا
وہی ہے سورتیں اپنی
وہی میں ہوں وہی تم ہو
مگر کھویا ہا ہوں میں
مگر تم بھی کہیں گم ہو
محبت میں دغا کی تھی
سو کافر تھے سو کافر ہیں
ملی ہیں منزلیں پھر بھی
مسافر تھے مسافر ہیں
تیرے دل کے نکالے ہم
کہاں بھٹکے کہاں پہنچے
مگر بھٹکے تو یاد آیا
بھٹکنا بھی ضروری تھا
محبت بھی ضروری تھا
بچھڑنا بھی ضروری تھا
ضروری تھا کی
ہم دونو طواف ا آرزو کرتے
مگر پھر آرزؤں کا
بکھرنا بھی ضروری تھا

So many words must have clung to your feet,
When you burned my last letter.
When you took the flowers out of the books,
The giver must have come to your mind.
The receding of the river of your eyes,
It was necessary.
Love was necessary.
Separation was necessary.

We both circumambulate the Kaaba of desires,
But then the scattering of desires,
It was also necessary.

When you stole my heart,
To hide the stolen thing,
You made God's house a refuge.
When you used to say,
You chant my name in your prayer beads,
You are afraid to recite,
The prayers of love.
But now I remember,
Those were just words, mere words,
Somewhere in those words,
Deception was also necessary.

The same verses are ours,
The same I am, the same you are,
But I am lost,
And you are also lost somewhere.
There was betrayal in love,
