"Seitdem du dich für mich entschieden hast, hab ich dich immer begleitet."
Doch dann sah der Freund eine Strecke lang nur eine einzige Fußspur
Und erkannte
Dass das die schwerste Zeit seines Lebens war
Er fragte Gott:
"Wo warst du während dieser Zeit?
Warum hattest du mich verlassen?"
Gott antwortete:
"Ich habe dich nie verlassen.
Da wo du nur eine Spur siehst, da hab ich dich getragen."

A Serenade for a Friend

I dreamt that my dearest friend was walking along the beach with God.
The stars were shining
And he realized he was reliving his past.
He saw two sets of footprints in the sand
And asked God what they meant
God replied:
"Ever since you decided to follow me, I have walked with you."
But then the friend noticed that for a while there was only one set of footprints
And realized
That this was the most difficult time of his life
He asked God:
"Where were you during that time?
Why did you leave me?"
God replied:
"I never left you.
In the places where you see only one set of footprints, that's where I carried you."
