Eine kleine Stadt geht müde schlafen,
Macht die vielen Fensteraugen zu.
Legt sich lang, besinnt, was so gewesen.
In den Straßen wird es langsam Ruh'.

Kommt der sanfte Nachtwind angeflogen,
Singt leis' auf dem Rathausturm ein Lied.
Und die Rathausuhr schenkt ihm ein Lächeln,
Aber nur, wenn's wirklich niemand sieht.

A Small Town

A small town wearied goes to sleep,
Closes its many window eyes.
Lies down at length, reflects on what has been.
In the streets, it’s slowly getting quiet.

The gentle night wind comes wafted,
Softly sings a song on the town hall tower.
And the town hall clock rewards it with a smile,
But only when no one is really watching.
