Na druhém konci aleje

Pod kopcem, kde se cesta lomí,
Obstoupilo mě stromořadí.
"Půjdete s námi!" řekly stromy
Tónem těch, co víc neprozradí.
Z černých snů na mě sykli hadi:
"Copak víš, kam se poděje
Pocestný, jehož vystrnadí
Na druhý konec aleje?"
Proč si mám zvykat na pohromy,
Tak jako na káď kapr v kádi?
Štěstí tu dosud nepřálo mi,
Snad mi to jinde vynahradí!
Tam, kde mě pozvou dál, a rádi.
Někdo se na mě usměje...
Holka, co už si housle ladí
Na druhém konci aleje?
Mají tam taky ekonomy,
Nebo je nikdo nepodvádí?
Nebudu sahat do svědomí
Těm, co si život něhou sladí...
Nestárnou, všichni umřou mladí.

Under the hill, where the road bends,
The trees surrounded me.
"Come with us!" said the trees
In the tone of those who say no more.
From black dreams the snakes hissed at me:
"Do you know, where it goes
The passerby, who is pushed out
At the other end of the avenue?"
Why should I get used to disasters,
Like a carp in a tub?
Luck has not favored me here,
Maybe it will compensate me elsewhere!
Where I am invited further, and with pleasure.
Someone will smile at me...
A girl who already tunes her violin

Do they have economists there too,
