SIEGMUND
Wo Sieglinde lebt in Lust und Leid,
Da will Siegmund auch säumen:
Noch machte dein Blick nicht mich erbleichen;
Vom Bleiben zwingt er mich nie!

BRÜNNHILDE
So lang du lebst,
Zwäng' dich wohl nichts:
Doch zwingt dich Thoren der Tod:
Ihn dir zu künden kam ich her.

SIEGMUND
Wo wäre der Held
Dem heut' ich fiel?

BRÜNNHILDE
Hunding fällt dich im Streit.

SIEGMUND
Mit Stärkrem drohe,
Als Hundings Streichen!
Lauerst du hier lüstern auf Wal,
Jenen kiese zum Fang:
Ich denk' ihn zu fällen im Kampf!

BRÜNNHILDE
Dir Wälsung, höre mich wohl:
Dir ward das Loos gekies't.

SIEGMUND
Kennst du diess Schwert?
Der mir es schuf, beschied mir Sieg:
Deinem Drohen trotz' ich mit ihm!

BRÜNNHILDE
Der dir es schuf, beschied dir jetzt Tod:
Seine Tugend nimmt er dem Schwert!

SIEGMUND
Schweig und schrecke die Schlummernde nicht!
Weh! weh! Süßestes Weib!
Du traurigste aller Getreuen!
Gegen dich wüthet in Waffen die Welt:
Und ich, dem du einzig vertraut,
Für den du ihr einzig getrotzt,

Does the bridal sister accompany the brother?
Will Siegmund embrace Sieglinde there?

BRÜNNHILDE
Earthly air she must still breathe:
Sieglinde does not see Siegmund there.

SIEGMUND
Then greet Valhalla for me,
Greet Wotan for me,
Greet Wälse and all the heroes,
Greet also the lovely maidens of desire:
I will not follow you to them!

BRÜNNHILDE
You have seen the Valkyrie's piercing gaze:
With her you must now go!

SIEGMUND
Where Sieglinde lives in joy and sorrow,
There Siegmund will also tarry:
Your gaze has not yet made me turn pale;
It will never force me to leave!

BRÜNNHILDE
