Os dentes levemente mais à frente
Revelam meu sorriso azulejado
Emoldurado por lábios salientes
Certamente ardentes se beijados
A fronte suavemente projetada
Como nas estátuas primitivas
A testa de feição mais alongada
Como nas estirpes mais antigas
Me atenho aqui a descrever meu rosto
Que o resto só com os olhos de um pintor
Suficientemente hábil e de bom gosto
Pra retratar-me toda em toda cor
Apenas cito a mais as minhas pernas
Raramente expostas por inteiro
Qual montanhas sob neves eternas
Encobertas janeiro a janeiro
Talvez a breve referência aos dentes
E ao meu sorriso aberto azulejado
Já seja tão ou mais que o suficiente
Para explicar as fadas do meu fado

Self-portrait

My teeth ever so slightly protrude,
Revealing my cerulean smile
Framed by prominent lips,
Ardent to kiss, I have no doubt.
My forehead subtly projects,
Like primitive statues of old,
And my brow slopes gently,
Of an ancient lineage, bold.
My face here I describe,
For the rest only a painter's discerning eyes,
With adept skill and meticulous touch
Could capture me, in all my vibrant hues.
Yet, my legs I'll briefly mention,
Rarely unveiled in their entirety.
Like mountains beneath eternal snows,
January after January they hide.
Perhaps this brief reference to my teeth
And my open, azure smile
Suffices to explain the allure
Of my fado's enchanting melodies.
