Als Du eingeschlafen bist, schau ich Dich noch lange an
Bis ich das, was ich empfind', irgendwie beschreiben kann
Dann steh ich im Dunkeln auf, leise denn sonst weck ich Dich
Schleich zum Schreibtisch, nehm Papier
Und schreibe einen Brief an mich

In diesem Brief an mich selbst steht alles drin
Was ich so sehr mag an Dir
Und wie dankbar ich bin, dass Du mich verstehst
Und Dein Leben teilst mit mir
Die Liste wird lang, denn da ist so viel
Was ich nicht vergessen will

Schreib' ich mit jedem Wort in den Brief an mich selbst

Ich setze meine Anschrift drauf
Schließ' den Brief im Schreibtisch ein
Vielleicht kommt mal 'ne Zeit für uns
Die schon wie das Ende scheint
Falls ich dann nicht mehr weiter weiß
Was mich noch abhält fortzugeh'n
Nehm' ich den Brief und schick ihn ab
Und wenn er kommt, dann les ich ihn

What I love so much about you
And how grateful I am that you understand me

The list is long, because there is so much
What I don't want to forget
What connects the two of us and how much you count for me
I write with every word in the letter to myself

I put my address on it
Close the letter in the desk
Maybe there will come a time for us
That feels like the end
If I don't know what to do anymore
What still keeps me from leaving
I'll take the letter and send it off
And when it comes, I'll read it
