Havia uma sacola com uma máscara e uma garota encontrou
De início teve medo e não sabia o que fazer e nem como compor
Mas colocou sobre o seu rosto e lhe caiu tão bem

Ficou acometida pela euforia de uma nova face e se lançou
Na rua e o mundo lhe retribuiu com flores, ninguém duvidou
Que a máscara cobriu o rosto que antes era só
Temor

E nada parecia lhe fazer parar de acreditar
Que o novo rosto e forte, na verdade sempre fora o seu
E mesmo que alertassem, ela respondia só
Sou eu

Mas teve um dia que ao descer a rua, o mundo desabou
Outros tantos lindos mascarados transitavam sem pudor
Ajoelhou com raiva, olhou pros céus e antes de gritar
Chorou

E ao se levantar olhou pros mascarados, condenou
São todos falsos, tantas cópias de um rosto que antes era meu
Ninguém lhe dava ouvidos, ela então, cansada, se desmascarou
E sorriu

E dizem que sorrindo ela entendeu

Que a vida só se dá pra quem se deu

Masquerades

There was a plastic bag with a mask and a girl found it
At first she was afraid and did not know what to do or how to compose herself
But she put it on her face and it suited her so well

She was seized by the euphoria of a new face and launched herself
Into the street and the world rewarded her with flowers, no one doubted
That the mask covered the face that before was only
Fear

And nothing seemed to make her stop believing
That the new face was strong, in truth it had always been hers
And even though they warned her, she would only answer

But there came a day when, walking down the street, the world collapsed
So many other beautiful masked people walked without shame
She knelt down in anger, looked to the sky and before she could scream
She cried

And when she got up she looked at the masked figures, she condemned them
They're all fake, so many copies of a face that was once mine
No one listened to her, so she, tired, unmasked herself
And smiled

And they say that by smiling she understood

That life only gives itself to those who have given themselves
