With his matted locks, a flowing river of sacred water,
गलेऽवलम्ब्य लम्बितां भुजङ्गतुङ्गमालिकाम्
Around his neck, a garland of serpents hangs long and low.
डमड्डमड्डमड्डमन्निनादवड्डमर्वयं
The damaru drum beats, "Dam Dam Dam," a resounding sound,
चकार चण्डताण्डवं तनोतु नः शिवः शिवम् ॥१॥
Lord Shiva performs his fierce Tandava, may he protect us all. ||1||
जटाकटाहसम्भ्रमभ्रमन्निलिम्पनिर्झरी_
From his matted hair, the swirling Ganges descends,
विलोलवीचिवल्लरीविराजमानमूर्धनि
A crown of vibrant, dancing serpents adorns his head.
धगद्धगद्धगज्जलल्ललाटपट्टपावके
Upon his forehead, the crescent moon shines bright,
किशोरचन्द्रशेखरे रतिः प्रतिक्षणं मम ॥२॥
Oh, Lord of the mountains, my love for you grows with every moment. ||2||
धराधरेन्द्रनन्दिनीविलासबन्धुबन्धुर
Oh, beloved of Parvati, daughter of the mountain king,
स्फुरद्दिगन्तसन्ततिप्रमोदमानमानसे
Your splendor fills the horizon, bringing joy to the mind.
कृपाकटाक्षधोरणीनिरुद्धदुर्धरापदि
With your merciful glance, you dispel all dangers and fears,
क्वचिद्दिगम्बरे मनो विनोदमेतु वस्तुनि ॥३॥
May my mind find solace in your divine presence. ||3||
जटाभुजङ्गपिङ्गलस्फुरत्फणामणिप्रभा
The glow of serpent jewels illuminates your matted hair,
कदम्बकुङ्कुमद्रवप्रलिप्तदिग्वधूमुखे
The faces of the celestial maidens are painted with saffron paste.
मदान्धसिन्धुरस्फुरत्त्वगुत्तरीयमेदुरे
Your upper garment, a vibrant red, shines like the rising sun,
मनो विनोदमद्भुतं बिभर्तु भूतभर्तरि ॥४॥
Oh, Lord of beings, grant me the wonder of your divine joy. ||4||
सहस्रलोचनप्रभृत्यशेषलेखशेखर_
The moon, with its thousand eyes, adorns your head,
प्रसूनधूलिधोरणी विधूसराङ्घ्रिपीठभूः
The earth, adorned with flowers, serves as your footstool.
भुजङ्गराजमालया निबद्धजाटजूटकः
With snakes as your ornaments, and matted locks as your crown,
श्रियै चिराय जायतां चकोरबन्धुशेखरः ॥५॥
May you forever bring prosperity, oh Lord of the moon. ||5||
ललाटचत्वरज्वलद्धनञ्जयस्फुलिङ्गभा_
Your forehead shines with the fire of the third eye,
निपीतपञ्चसायकं नमन्निलिम्पनायकम्
You have conquered the five arrows of Kamadeva.
सुधामयूखलेखया विराजमानशेखरं
With a crescent moon adorning your head,
महाकपालिसम्पदेशिरोजटालमस्तु नः ॥६॥
Oh, bearer of the skull, may your blessings be upon us. ||6||
करालभालपट्टिकाधगद्धगद्धगज्ज्वलद्_
Your fierce and radiant third eye blazes with fire,
धनञ्जयाहुतीकृतप्रचण्डपञ्चसायके
Burning away the five arrows of desire.
धराधरेन्द्रनन्दिनीकुचाग्रचित्रपत्रक
Parvati, with her artistic hands, has adorned you,
प्रकल्पनैकशिल्पिनि त्रिलोचने रतिर्मम ॥७॥
Oh, three-eyed Lord, my heart finds joy in you. ||7||
नवीनमेघमण्डली निरुद्धदुर्धरस्फुरत्_
New clouds gather, their darkness dispelled by your radiance,
कुहूनिशीथिनीतमः प्रबन्धबद्धकन्धरः
The night sky becomes a dark tapestry upon your shoulders.
निलिम्पनिर्झरीधरस्तनोतु कृत्तिसिन्धुरः
Oh, wearer of the flowing Ganges, grant us fame and glory,
कलानिधानबन्धुरः श्रियं जगद्धुरंधरः ॥८॥
Beloved of the arts, you hold the world in your hands. ||8||
प्रफुल्लनीलपङ्कजप्रपञ्चकालिमप्रभा_
The dark beauty of the lotus blooms at the end of time,
वलम्बिकण्ठकन्दलीरुचिप्रबद्धकन्धरम्
A garland of these blossoms graces your neck.
स्मरच्छिदं पुरच्छिदं भवच्छिदं मखच्छिदं
Destroyer of Kamadeva, of Tripura, of Bhava, of obstacles,
गजच्छिदान्धकच्छिदं तमन्तकच्छिदं भजे ॥९॥
Conqueror of the elephant demon, of Andhaka, and of darkness, I worship you. ||9||
अखर्वसर्वमङ्गलाकलाकदम्बमञ्जरी_
Oh, embodiment of auspiciousness, a cascade of blessings,
रसप्रवाहमाधुरीविजृम्भणामधुव्रतम्
A flowing river of sweetness, a vow of honeyed delight.
स्मरान्तकं पुरान्तकं भवान्तकं मखान्तकं
Ender of desires, of cities, of existence, of obstacles,
गजान्तकान्धकान्तकं तमन्तकान्तकं भजे ॥१०॥
Conqueror of the elephant demon, of Andhaka, and of darkness, I worship you. ||10||
जयत्वदभ्रविभ्रमभ्रमद्भुजङ्गमश्वसद्_
Victorious is your dance, with swirling snakes and powerful steps,
विनिर्गमत्क्रमस्फुरत्करालभालहव्यवाट्
Your fierce gaze pierces through the darkness.
धिमिद्धिमिद्धिमिध्वनन्मृदङ्गतुङ्गमङ्गल_
The resounding beat of the damaru drum fills the air,
ध्वनिक्रमप्रवर्तितप्रचण्डताण्डवः शिवः ॥११॥
As you perform your awe-inspiring Tandava, oh Lord Shiva. ||11||
दृषद्विचित्रतल्पयोर्भुजङ्गमौक्तिकस्रजोर्_
With serpents for earrings and pearl necklaces,
गरिष्ठरत्नलोष्ठयोः सुहृद्विपक्षपक्षयोः
With precious stones and sacred ash adorning your body,
तृणारविन्दचक्षुषोः प्रजामहीमहेन्द्रयोः
With eyes like lotuses and the sun and moon as your companions,
समप्रवृत्तिकः कदा सदाशिवं भजाम्यहम् ॥१२॥
Oh, eternal Shiva, when will I be able to worship you always? ||12||
कदा निलिम्पनिर्झरीनिकुञ्जकोटरे वसन्
When will I dwell in the peaceful forest grotto, free from worries,
विमुक्तदुर्मतिः सदा शिरःस्थमञ्जलिं वहन्
With hands folded in reverence, and eyes filled with devotion?
विमुक्तलोललोचनो ललामभाललग्नकः
With my gaze fixed on your radiant forehead,
शिवेति मन्त्रमुच्चरन्कदा सुखी भवाम्यहम् ॥१३॥
Chanting your name, oh Shiva, when will I find true happiness? ||13||
इमं हि नित्यमेवमुक्तमुत्तमोत्तमं स्तवं
Whoever recites this hymn, the most excellent of praises,
पठन्स्मरन्ब्रुवन्नरो विशुद्धिमेतिसंततम्
Will attain purity and liberation.
हरे गुरौ सुभक्तिमाशु याति नान्यथा गतिं
They will find devotion to the Guru and the path to salvation,
विमोहनं हि देहिनां सुशङ्करस्य चिन्तनम् ॥१४॥
For the contemplation of Lord Shiva dispels all delusion. ||14||
पूजावसानसमये दशवक्त्रगीतं यः
He who recites this hymn of Ravana,
शम्भुपूजनपरं पठति प्रदोषे
With devotion to Lord Shiva at dusk,
तस्य स्थिरां रथगजेन्द्रतुरङ्गयुक्तां
Shall be blessed with wealth and prosperity,
लक्ष्मीं सदैव सुमुखीं प्रददाति शम्भुः ॥१५॥
And find favor in the eyes of Lord Shiva. ||15||
इति श्रीरावण_कृतं शिव_ताण्डव स्तोत्रं सम्पूर्णम्
