Àðr Burs synir biõðum um ypðu,
Þeir er Miðgarð, sòl skein sunnan à salar steina,
Þà var grund gròin grœnum lauki
Hittusk æsir à Iðavelli, þeir er hörg ok hof hàtim bruðu,
Afla lögð, auð smiðuðu,
Tangir skòpu ok tòl görðu
Tefldu ì tùni, teitir vàru,
Var þeim vettugis vant or gulli;
Unz þrjàr kvàmu þursa meyjar àmàtkar miõk òr iõtunheimum

I Came From Yonder

I came from yonder, from beyond the mountains,
Where those who bore me long ago resided;
Nine worlds I know, nine in the tree,
The great central tree below the earth.
Before the sons of Bur raised their lands,
When Midgard was made, and the sun shone from the south on the halls of stone,
Then was the earth grown over with green leeks.
The Aesir met on the Field of Ida, they who built shrines and temples high,
They established powers, they forged treasures,
They shaped tongs and crafted tools.
They played games in the courtyard, they were joyful,
They had no lack of gold;
Until three came, mighty maiden giantesses, from Jotunheim.
