Ein freundliches Wort hat meine seele beruhrt (defined and fragile)

Es wird wohl ein Tag wie all die ander'n werden,
So sagt' ich mir, war innerlich bereit,
Die üb'len Wort' aufs neue zu ertragen,
Den täglich Spott, das altbekannte Leid.
Doch zaub'risch, mächt'ge Dinge,
Die können jederzeit gescheh'n,
Mit off'nem Herz und Sinnen
Kann sterblich' Aug' sie seh'n...
Als ich dort saß, des Zuges Kommen harrte,
Da sah ich sie, die ich in Kindertagen kannt'.
Schnell schaut' ich weg, kaum einen Gruß erwartend,
Wohl wissend, daß die "Masse"
Manch' Erinn'rung gern verbannt.
Doch vorbestimmte Dinge ereignen sich, man glaubt es kaum.
Seltsam und unerwartet, schwerlich den eig'nen Ohr'n zu trau'n.
"Ach, sag', kenn' ich Dich nicht?",
Sprach sie, mir gegenüber als sie Platz nahm,
Trotz eines fast leeren Abteils.
"Bist Du nicht die, welche als Einz'ge mit mir spielte,
Als ich neu war, fremd und damals so allein?
Ich möcht' mich gerne nun bei Dir bedanken
Für Deine lieben Worte, als sonst keiner mir sprach.
Seit Jahren schon verspür' ich das Verlangen,
Dir zu offenbar'n, wie wertvoll Deine Hilfe war.
Aus Ungarn kam ich, kannt' niemand, nur Du spieltest mit mir.
Du gabst mir Kraft, und endlich heute dank' ich Dir dafür.
Von weitem hab' ich Dich ja schon so oft geseh'n,
Doch irgendwie hab' ich mich nie richtig getraut.
Deiner Reaktion war ich mir nicht ganz sicher,
Zahlreich sind die Gerüchte, siehst Du doch so seltsam aus."
In der Stadt angekommen schaute sie auf ihre Uhr und sprach:
"Ich hab' noch Zeit, woll'n wir 'nen Kaffee trinken geh'n?"
"Uuh, auf keinen Fall, Darling! Ich trinke niemals Kaffee,
Doch eine Tasse Tee", meint' ich, "wär' jetzt durchaus schön".
Und so zogen wir los ohne festes Ziel
Und suchten nach einem angemess'nen Ort.
Doch in dem ersten Cafe wollt' man uns nicht bedienen,
Starrt' uns bös' nur an, und so zogen wir fort.
Zwei Gassen weiter ein Gasthof ward gefunden,
Die Zeit verging..., also kehrten wir ein.
Gar viel junges Volk war hier versammelt,
Speißte, rauchte, sprach und starrte...
Zum Glück war ich nicht allein!
Ja, schicksalhafte Wege, ein wundervoll Geschenk,
Von gütig' Geisterhänden meine schritte war'n gelenkt...
Ja, aus freien Stücken hätt' solch' Ort ich nie besucht,
Denn was dort zu erwarten ist, ich weiß es nur zu gut...
Ein Mann gehüllt in Schwärze, ein heißes Mahl verzehrend,
Er saß mir gegenüber an einem ander'n Tisch.,
Und für den intimsten, flücht'gen Augenblick
Schauten wir uns an, und uns're Blicke trafen sich.
So völlig unerwartet, mein Innerstes berührt,
Den Dornenwall durchdrungen und Lebenskraft gespürt...
Und als wir gehen mußten, wartete er auf mich,
Er kam zu uns herüber, er kam an unser'n Tisch:
"Ich muß Dir etwas sagen, sonst kann ich noch nicht geh'n.
Was immer and're denken, ich find' Dich wunderschön!"
Oh, welch ein Zaubermantel, der nun machtvoll mich umgab,
Der zaub'risch mich erhöhte und schenkte neue Kraft.
Für zwei volle Tage erfüllt' mich jene Macht,
Und alle bösen Worte...-sie perlten an mir ab!
(Gar tief in meinem Herzen behüt' ich jenes Glück
Und in den dunklen Stunden denk' ich daran zurück...!

A Kind Word Touched My Soul (defined and fragile)

It will probably be a day like all the others,
So I told myself, inwardly prepared,
To endure the evil words anew,
The daily mockery, the familiar suffering.
But magical, mighty things,
They can happen at any time,
With an open heart and mind
Mortal eyes can see them...
As I sat there, waiting for the train to arrive,
I saw her, the one I knew in childhood.
I quickly looked away, hardly expecting a greeting,
Knowing full well that the "masses"
Like to banish many a memory.
But predetermined things happen, you can hardly believe it.
Strange and unexpected, hardly to be trusted by one's own ears.
"Oh, tell me, don't I know you?",
She said, sitting across from me,
Despite an almost empty compartment.
"Aren't you the one who was the only one who played with me,
When I was new, strange and so alone back then?
I would like to thank you now
For your kind words, when no one else spoke to me.
For years I have felt the desire,
To reveal to you how valuable your help was.
I came from Hungary, I knew no one, only you played with me.
You gave me strength, and finally today I thank you for it.
I've seen you so often from afar,
But somehow I never really dared.
I wasn't quite sure of your reaction,
The rumors are numerous, you look so strange."
Arriving in the city, she looked at her watch and said:
"I still have time, shall we go for a coffee?"
"Ugh, no way, darling! I never drink coffee,
But a cup of tea", I said, "would be quite nice now".
And so we set off without a fixed destination
And looked for a suitable place.
But in the first cafe they wouldn't serve us,
Just stared at us angrily, and so we moved on.
Two streets further on we found an inn,
Time passed..., so we went in.
Many young people were gathered here,
Eating, smoking, talking and staring...
Luckily I wasn't alone!
Yes, fateful paths, a wonderful gift,
By kind spirit hands my steps were guided...
Yes, of my own free will I would never have visited such a place,
For what to expect there, I know only too well...
A man dressed in black, consuming a hot meal,
He sat across from me at another table,
And for the most intimate, fleeting moment
We looked at each other, and our eyes met.
So completely unexpected, my innermost being touched,
The wall of thorns penetrated and life force felt...
And when we had to leave, he waited for me,
He came over to us, he came to our table:
"I have to tell you something, otherwise I can't go yet.
Whatever others think, I find you beautiful!"
Oh, what a magic cloak that now powerfully surrounded me,
That magically lifted me up and gave me new strength.
For two full days that power filled me,
And all the evil words...-they bounced off me!
(Deep in my heart I cherish that happiness
And in the dark hours I think back on it...!
