Basma Digdha Kalebharam, Bhava Nasanam, Bhava Mavyayam,

Chandrashekhara Ashtakam

He who resides on the golden mountain, adorned with precious gems,
He who wields the arrow that vanquished the arrogant god of love,
He who swiftly burned the three cities, surrounded by the celestial realms,
With Chandrashekhara as my refuge, what can Yama, the god of death, do to me? 1

His two arms adorned with fragrant five-petaled flowers,
His eyes like lotuses, his form radiant, having consumed Manmatha with fire,
Smeared with ashes, the destroyer of sorrow, the eternal, the unchanging,
With Chandrashekhara as my refuge, what can Yama, the god of death, do to me? 2

He who wears the elephant hide as his upper garment, a majestic adornment,
He whose lotus feet are worshipped by Brahma, with eyes like lotuses,
His matted hair adorned with the crescent moon, the purifier of the gods,
With Chandrashekhara as my refuge, what can Yama, the god of death, do to me? 3

He who holds the serpent king as his weapon, his chest adorned with snakes,

His left side beautifully adorned by the daughter of the mountain king,
His throat dark blue, radiating joy, bearing the deer,
With Chandrashekhara as my refuge, what can Yama, the god of death, do to me? 4

His earrings fashioned from Kundalini serpents, his vehicle the bull,
His glory praised by Narada and other sages, the lord of the universe,
He who dispelled the darkness of Andhaka, his feet like lotuses, the destroyer of death,
With Chandrashekhara as my refuge, what can Yama, the god of death, do to me? 5

He who is the medicine for the disease of worldly existence, the remover of all sins,
He who destroyed Daksha's sacrifice, the three-natured one, the three-eyed,
The bestower of enjoyment and liberation, the remover of all association with sin,
With Chandrashekhara as my refuge, what can Yama, the god of death, do to me? 6

He who is compassionate towards his devotees, the imperishable treasure, the lord of Chidambaram,
The lord of all beings, the supreme being, the incomparable and noble one,
He who holds the moon, seated on the bull, whose actions are pure like the moon,
With Chandrashekhara as my refuge, what can Yama, the god of death, do to me? 7

He who creates the universe, sustains it, and then destroys it,
He who annihilates the worlds and the beings within them,
He who is worshipped day and night, accompanied by the sounds of his attendants and the din of battle,
With Chandrashekhara as my refuge, what can Yama, the god of death, do to me? 8

This hymn was composed by the son of Mrikandu, fearing death, in the presence of Shiva,
Whoever reads it, wherever they may be, will have no fear of death,
They will be complete, healthy, and achieve all their desires,
Chandrashekhara himself will grant them liberation effortlessly. 9
