Letzte Nacht stand ich schweigend unter einer Straßenlaterne

Aber der Krieg ist vorbei, und letzte Nacht, als ich
An derselben Ecke, zurück in dieser alten Nachbarschaft, stand
Konnte ich nicht verhindern, dass mir eine Träne übers Gesicht lief
Denn ich kannte kein einziges Gesicht in den Massen, die vorbeizogen
Für immer verschwunden sind die Freunde, die ich liebe
