Ich hab den Kerl schon früher mal gesehen
Doch er ist längst tot das soll einer verstehen!

In Würzburg da fahr ich zum tanken raus
Will nach Süden will endlich nach Haus
Der Tankwart sagt:"Was ne scheußliche Nacht
Die hat schon so manchen ins Grab gebracht"

I can hardly see anything because of the heavy rain
On Bayern 3, "Big John" is playing
And I'm almost alone on the highway
Only behind me, a heavy truck roars
All black paint from top to bottom
He flashes his lights, then passes me
And I get very cold, this is wizardry
At the wheel sits a pale figure
Half ghost, half human, and far too old
I've seen this guy before
But he's long dead, how can this be!

In Würzburg I pull over to refuel
I want to go south, I want to go home
The gas station attendant says: "What a terrible night
It's already brought many to their grave"

Twenty years ago on this fateful day
My friend died in a black truck
A yellow VW caused his distress
