Noch einmal 25

Wer auf des Lebens Gipfel steht,
Dem Gegenwind den Rücken dreht,
Der dort gewöhnlich rauher weht -
Und glaubt, daß es nun leichter geht,
Weil′s abwärts geht, der irrt sich.
Bergab tut sich der Lebenslauf
Bedeutend schwerer als bergauf.
Bei Billigpreisen zahlt man drauf:
Wie Ramsch im Sommerschlußverkauf
Geht Leben weg ab vierzig.
Das Leben schreibt im Abwärtstrend
Geschichten ohne Happyend,
Und Glück wird Glück aus second hand.
Die Herrlichkeit wird impotent,
Die Dämlichkeit emanzig.
Man trägt die Haut zum Supermarkt.
Die Liebe neigt zum Herzinfarkt.
Der Sex wird auf dem Schrott geparkt.
Die Träume werden eingesargt.
Der Jugend Schmelz wird ranzig.
Ab fünfzig fühlt so mancher sich
Als midlifegreiser Tatterich.
Ich aber sage: Ohne mich!
An meinem fünfzigsten werd' ich
Noch einmal fünfundzwanzig!

Once Again 25

He who stands at the peak of life,
And turns his back to the opposing winds,
Which usually blow harder there -
And believes that it will now be easier,
Because it is going down, is mistaken.
Downward, the course of life becomes
Considerably heavier than upward.
At bargain prices, you pay extra:
Life goes away like junk in a summer sale
From forty onwards.
Life writes in a downward trend
Stories without happy endings,
And happiness becomes second-hand happiness.
Glory becomes impotent,
And stupidity becomes emancipated.
One carries one's skin to the supermarket.
Love tends to have a heart attack.
Sex is parked on the scrap heap.
Dreams are coffined.
The radiance of youth becomes rancid.
From fifty onwards, many feel
Like midlife, old, tattered beggars.
But I say: Not without me!
On my fiftieth I'll be
Twenty-five once again!
