Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen, aus einer Wurzel zart,
Wie uns die Alten sungen, von Jesse kam die Art,

Das Roslein, das ich meine, davon Jesaias sagt,
Ist Maria die Reine uns das Blumlein bracht.

Das Blumelein, so kleine, das duftet uns so su?,

It is a rose sprung forth, from a tender root,
As the ancients sung to us, from Jesse came the kind,
And it bore a little flower in the middle of cold winter
Amidst the middle of the night.

The little rose, that I mean, of which Isaiah speaks,
Is Mary the Pure who bore us the little flower.
According to God's eternal plan she bore a child
And remained a pure maiden.

The little flower, so small, that smells so sweet,
With its bright light it drives away the darkness.
True man and true God, helps us from all sorrows,
Saves from sin and death.

O Jesus, until parting from this vale of tears
Let Your help guide us to the hall of joy,
In Your Father's kingdom, where we eternally praise You.
O God, grant us this.
