Once I was lost deep in the darkest wood,
Searching for any path I could.

I stumbled upon a clearing, at dawn.

There, light played upon the swaying grass,

A Wild Maiden, fair as a spring day, did pass,
Entranced by the world's magic spell.

And if you wish to hear, I say to you:
If you want to go, then go.

Her eyes so lovely, like violets so blue,
Her smile the most sensual delight.
Her skin was like snow, smelled of honey and dew,
And her hair resembled the sun's radiant light.

On her delicate body, she wore naught but a dress,
Finely woven from jasmine and narcissus bright.
And she drew me down, past times I confess,
To kiss away the tears that had brought me plight.

Sank down into the Wild Maiden's embrace.
And comfortingly, worries and purpose did stray,
On a bed of blossoms and moss, in that place.

I dreamed of summers and winters that flee,
And reality around me dissolved into air.
And I dreamed of years that passed without me,
While I enjoyed her love, beyond compare.

And when I finally opened my eyes,
I was old, near death's embrace.
And the Wild Maiden, who showed me life's guise,
Stroked my hair, with a smile on her face.

And she spoke: "Be not sad, and listen to the wind.
All flows, all drifts, so be prepared to depart.
Many a moment flees, like a life, swiftly thinned,
In the spell of the Wild Maiden and her art."

And if you wish to hear, I say to you:
If you want to cry, then cry!
If you want to scream, then scream!
If you want to dance, then dance one last time with me, it's true!"

And I breathed: "Why should I cry or scream anymore?
If I were still here in the bloom of youth,
For a single moment like this, I would implore,
To give my life a second time, forsooth."
