ولما تلاقت يدها بيدي
قلت بدي شكلك بالورد
قالت أنا بالعكس ما بدي
فرشتلها ريش نعام تخوت
وبوردتها بهبة نسيم الليل
وجبتلها حبة من الياقوت
تلمع بصدرا متل نجم سهيل
وقلتلها يا حاضري وغدي
عطفك هدايا الحب لا تردي
غطت زنود العاج بالديباج
وقالت اذا بتريد ما بدي
سحبت من عمر الزمن خيطان
بتلبق بلون شفافها الحمرة
وطرزت فيهن قبة الفستان
الي رح تحترق من تلجة الجمرة
وقلت لبسيهن والشمس حدة
فزعان تكوي الورد الي مندي
قالت ما فيها شمس تكوي شمس
وعن اذنك فساتين ما بدي
وليلة شربت السحر وتغيرت
ودخلت غرفتها ورا الأحلام
وقربت من صوب الفراش
وصرت رش الغفا بعيونها تتنام
نامت وحلمت حالها حدي
وصارت تطبع جمر عاخدي
وشو خفت يفلت من عيونها الحلم
وتوعى الصبح و تقول ما بدي
ولما عرفت ما في أمل يحلا عنقودها
فتشت عأحلى ولما عرفت العصفور منها طار
ومن غير وعي ومن عيونها الكحلى
من القهر نزلت دمعة الياريت
تكوي زرار بعروة المريول
وصارت بعد ما تركتها وفليت
تركض ورايي حافية وتقول
دخلك شدني وغمرني بدي
إغفى و أعمل زندك مخدة
قلتلها سبحان كيف وقت الي صار بدك
مابقى بدي

A Promise to Her - موعود فيها

I promised her for a while,
And when her hand intertwined with mine,
I said, "Your appearance is like a flower."
She said, "On the contrary, I don't want it."
I spread ostrich feathers for her to sit on,
And perfumed her with the gentle night breeze.
I brought her a ruby,
To glimmer on her chest like the star Suhail.
And I said to her, "My present and my future,
Don't refuse these gifts of love."
She covered her ivory arms with brocade,
And said, "If you wish, I don't want it."
I drew threads from the fabric of time,
To match the crimson of her soft lips.
And with them, I embroidered the dome of her dress,
Which would burn with the embers of passion.
And I asked her to wear them as the sun blazed,
Fearing it would scorch the dewy rose.
She said, "There is no sun that can burn the sun,
And I don't want dresses, with your permission."
And one night she drank the magic potion and transformed,
And entered her chambers, chasing dreams.
I approached the bedside,
And sprinkled sleep into her eyes as she slumbered.
She slept and dreamed of me by her side,
And began to imprint embers on my cheek.
Fearing that the dream would vanish from her eyes,
And she would awaken at dawn saying, "I don't want it."
When I realized there was no hope of plucking her grapes,
I searched for the sweetest, but the bird had flown.
And from her dark eyes,
A tear of regret rolled down.
She darned a button on the strap of her pinafore,
And when I left her and fled,
She ran barefoot after me, saying,
"'Hold me tight and embrace me, I want it."
I slumbered and made your arm my pillow,
I said to her, "Glory be, how can you suddenly want it?
I no longer want you."
