in albero e che fù per scelta sua
che si fermò
e stava li a guardare
la terra partorire fiori nuovi
così fu nido per conigli e colibrì
il vento gli insegnò i sapori di
di resina e di miele selvatico
e pioggia lo bagnò
la mia felicità diceva dentro se stesso
ecco ecco ľho trovata ora che
ora che sto bene ed ho tutto il tempo per me
non ho più bisogno di nessuno
ecco la bellezza della vita che cos'è
ma un giorno passarono di li due occhi di fanciulla
due occhi che avevano rubato al cielo un po' della sua vernice
e sentì tremar la sua radice
quanto smarrimento d'improvviso dentro se
quello che solo un uomo
senza donna sa che cos'è
e allungò i suoi rami per toccarla
capì che la felicità non è mai la metà di un infinito
ora era insieme luna e sole sasso e nuvola
era insieme riso e pianto soltanto
era un uomo che cominciava a vivere
ora era il pianto che riempiva la sua grande immensa solitudine

But one day, two maiden eyes passed by
Two eyes that had stolen a bit of its paint from the sky
And he felt his roots tremble
How much sudden bewilderment within him
That which only a man
Without a woman knows what it is
And he stretched out his branches to touch her
He understood that happiness is never half of an infinity
Now he was both moon and sun, stone and cloud
He was both laughter and tears, simply
He was a man who was beginning to live
Now it was the tears that filled his great immense solitude
It was that true part that every love story holds within itself so that we can believe in it
