Re_birthday

I awoke all alone in a room painted pitch black.
I couldn't see or hear a thing. I trembled alone in the darkness.
There was a large hole in the ceiling. When I looked closer, I saw a giant clockwork gear.
From somewhere beyond it, an eerie, unidentified voice suddenly began to speak.

“Sinful boy,” it said. “From now on and for all eternity,
“You shall never escape this room.”

Suddenly, I remembered everything; the weight of my sins bearing down on me.
I understood why I was here. I understood the ending of my story. I could never go back to the way things were.
I realized there was a pair of red handcuffs latched onto my wrists. They were the color of blood—the blood of someone I had hurt.
There were blue chains around my ankles. They were the color of tears—the tears of someone I had betrayed.

“Ru-ri-ra-ru-ri-ra,” sang a voice. Whose lullaby was this…?

I couldn’t tell how much time had passed. I asked the motionless gear.
The song that seemed to come from nowhere was the only thing that kept me from losing hope.
Then one day, I finally understood. I understood the true meaning behind that lullaby.
And so, I, too, sang the lullaby—with some new words of my own.

A beam of light suddenly appeared through a crack in the gear,
shining down on me like a message of hope—a message from you.

The gear began to turn, whispering, “Your sins shall never be forgiven.”
But we can sing of water. We can sing of evil. We can turn these words into a song.
The red handcuffs fell away. Then, they spoke to me. “From now on,” they said, “you shall be born anew.”
The blue chains fell away. They spoke to me as well. “Today is your new birthday,” they said.

Everything began to whirl. White. I’m coming to see you soon.
