Высоко над землей рассекая мглу,
Или долгой зимой в замшелом медвежьем углу,

Grandfather Frost Blues

Early in the morning, facing the east,
Standing beneath a tree, dipping my palms into the spring,
Dissolving in the rainbow, tasting the sun,
When night sets fire to the flowers falling from the sky,
We'll remember this Grandfather Frost blues.
I walked into a shop in Venice -
Grappa is too expensive to drink, let's drink gasoline instead
Let's jump off bridges, reverse the polarity,
And when the gondoliers fish us out of the canals
From the radio in the kitchen we'll hear Grandfather Frost blues.
Everywhere is either Kondopoga or Khokhloma,
The homeland is generous with reasons to go mad
And set off barefoot on the roads under the gray rain.
But where our end ends, infinity begins -
And don't say you weren't warned about this.
High above the earth, cutting through the mist,
Or during a long winter in a mossy bear's den,
Blinded by the sun, shedding someone else's meaningless burden,
We watch as night sets fire to the flowers falling from the sky,
And we say - "Farewell, Grandfather Frost blues".
