Приснилось мне - средь зимней вьюги
В каком-то доме при огне
Собрались все мои подруги
И говорили обо мне.
Забыв про ревности остатки
И про вчерашние бои
Вслух обсуждали недостатки
И все достоинства мои.
Не говорили - просто пели!
То хор, то соло, то - дуэт.
И сообща почти сумели
Составить полный мой портрет.
Там было все - и то, и это:
Хватало тьмы, хватало света,
Палитра ночи, краски дня,
Тепло зимы и холод лета
Обогащали ткань портрета -
Там только не было меня.
...Я лбом в стекло устал тереться,
Метель меня сбивала с ног.
Кричал, стучал, просил согреться -
Но достучаться к ним не смог.

I dreamed - amidst the winter blizzard
In some house by the fire
All my girlfriends gathered
And talked about me.
Forgetting about the remnants of jealousy
And about yesterday's battles
They discussed my flaws aloud
And all my virtues.
They didn't speak - they simply sang!
Sometimes a choir, sometimes a solo, sometimes a duet.
And together they almost managed
To create a complete portrait of me.
Everything was there - this and that:
There was enough darkness, enough light,
The palette of the night, the colors of the day,
The warmth of winter and the chill of summer
Enriched the fabric of the portrait -
Only I was missing.
...I grew tired of pressing my forehead against the glass,
The blizzard knocked me off my feet.
I screamed, knocked, begged them to let me warm up -
But I couldn't reach them.
