Посвящение театру

С давних лет
Я любил не спектакль
А, скорей
Подготовку к спектаклю:
Я смотрел
Как из волн
Возникало движенье
Единой реки
Королей и принцесс
Наряжали в картон
И под бороды красили паклю
Режиссер весь горел
И от счастья и боли
Сжимал кулаки
Даже самый
Бездарный актер
Для меня был предметом
Немого восторга:
Он творил чудеса
Он играл чей-то сложный
Душевный конфликт...
Я с тех пор не привык
Их делить
На актеров второго
И первого сорта
Ведь они — это мы
А разрыв между нами
Не так уж велик
И порой я гляжу:
Мы — актеры большого
Большого театра
Только вот режиссер
Отлучился куда-то на миг
И пропал
А способность играть
Обусловлена, в сущности
Личным талантом
Но не скажет никто
Что за пьеса
И скоро ль наступит финал
Знать хотя бы на миг
Сколько актов
И сколько меж ними антрактов
И чем кончится все
И какая в финале
Прибудет мораль
И чтоб кто-то сказал:
"Ваша роль
Исполняется так-то и так-то"
Но не скажет никто
А уставших актеров
Так искренне жаль

Dedication to the Theater

For many years
I didn't love the performance
But rather
The preparation for the performance:
I watched
As from the waves
A movement arose
Of a single river
Kings and princesses
Dressed in cardboard
And painted tow under their beards
The director was all on fire
With joy and pain
Clenched his fists
Even the most
Untalented actor
Was an object of
Silent delight for me:
He worked miracles
He played someone's complex
Mental conflict...
Since then, I am not used to it
To divide them
Into second-rate actors
And first-rate actors
After all, they are us
And the gap between us
Is not so great
And sometimes I look:
We are actors of a great
Great theater
Only the director
Went away somewhere for a moment
And disappeared
And the ability to play
Is determined, in essence
By personal talent
But no one will say
What is the play
And when will the finale come
To know for a moment
How many acts
And how many intermissions between them
And how it will all end
And what in the finale
Will be the moral
And so that someone would say:
"Your role
Is played like this and so"
But no one will say
And the tired actors
I feel so sorry for them
