Задумчивый ёжик

Знаешь ли ты, что тёплая мягкая подушка
Которая лежит у тебя ночью под головой, полным полна сказок?
Ах нет, ты не знаешь?
"Она полным-полна пуху? — скажешь ты
Но ведь пух этот взят у птиц, а птицы — где только они не бывали!
Подумать только: эти пушинки, что носили они на себе
Блестели на солнце, их омывало дождём и обдувало ветром
И каждая такая пушинка, если она знает хотя бы одну сказку
То тебе хватит сказок на все ночи, покуда ты не вырастешь
Ну конечно, ведь растёшь ты всё больше ночью, когда спишь
Прижавшись щекой к доброй подушке

"Послушай сейчас сказку о ёжике" — сказала добрая подушка
Это был задумчивый ёжик, грустный и немножечко странный
Он стоял на бугорке возле небольшой ёлочки и глядел куда-то
Он даже не слышал, как подошла девочка и тихонько протянула к нему руку
Он не успел свернуться колючим шариком, как её пальчики уже охватили его
Но так как он был немножко странный, он не испугался, он только задумчиво сказал

"Оказывается, если встать на бугорок, то не только тебе видней, но и тебя видней"
"А что ты высматривал?" — спросила девочка
"Я заблудился и хотел найти свой дом"
"Хочешь, я тебя снова поставлю на бугорок? Попробуй поищи"
"Нет уж" — сказал странный ёжик
"Я давно стою на этом бугорке, а дома своего никак не найду
И потом, когда ты в другой раз захочешь взять меня голыми руками
Это может тебе не удастся — я натяну на себя свои иголки"
"А разве ты хочешь, чтобы я взяла тебя к себе домой?" — спросила девочка
"Что ж" — вздохнул ёжик. Этот ёжик умел вздыхать
"Твой дом — не мой дом, но всё же это дом
И, потом, у тебя добрые пальчики" — добавил он
Они меня держат очень осторожно, ласково"

Девочка принесла к себе ёжика, поставила его на стул и спросила
"А чем тебя кормить? У меня ещё никогда не было ёжиков, и я не знаю, что они едят"
"И у меня никогда не было ёжиков" — сказал странный ёжик
"Я бы спросил свою маму, чем меня надо кормить, но я ведь не знал, что я заблужусь"
"Какой ты странный!" — сказала девочка
"Да, я странный" — согласился ёжик
"Я странный и... голодный" — прибавил он и снова задумался
"Так я тебе дам самое вкусное, что у меня есть!" — сказала девочка
И принесла ёжику варенье на тарелочке. Ёжик понюхал и отошёл
"Нет" — сказал он. "Это не то, что я ем. Попробуй, пожалуйста, дать мне что-нибудь другое"

Тогда девочка принесла ему хлеб с маслом. Но ёжик понюхал и отвернулся
"Нет, это еда не для ежей" — сказал он. "Может быть ты попробуешь дать мне самое невкусное?"
"Самое невкусное — это, конечно, молоко, которое бабушка заставляет меня пить"
Сказала девочка, и поставила перед ёжиком блюдце с молоком
Ёжик сунул мордочку в блюдце и не вынимал её оттуда, пока блюдце не опустело
"Если этот вкуснейший напиток называется "молоко"" — сказал ёжик
"То мне остаётся только пожалеть, что твоя бабушка — не моя бабушка"
"Ничего!" — сказала девочка. "Она будет и твоей бабушкой... то есть... я не то хотела сказать
Я хотела сказать, что моё молоко будет и твоим молоком. Я с тобой охотно поделюсь"

Но странный ёжик не долго радовался. Он снова сделался задумчивым и даже чуточку грустным
"А чем я, такой колючий, смогу тебя отблагодарить? Что я умею? Я забыл об этом спросить у моей мамы"
"Ах, это совсем неважно!" — сказала девочка. "Всё равно ты мой, милый ёжик!"
"Вот так?!" — удивился ёжик. "Об этом надо мне ещё подумать"
И он полез под кровать, а девочка пошла гулять во двор
Когда она пришла и стала мыть посуду, она очень удивилась
Бутылки из под молока, которые трудней всего мыть, были уже чистые
"Их очень просто мыть" — сказал ёжик. "Надо как можно больше вытянуться
Залезть в бутылку, свернуться комочком, и попрыгать в ней немножко, а потом сполоснуть её чистой водой"

Однажды ночью девочка, проснувшись, услышала как ёжик бегал по комнате из угла в угол
А потом долго возился, сопел и шуршал бумагой
"Ну почему ты не спишь?"
"Я вспомнил дорогу к себе домой. Там у меня мама-ежиха, папа-ёж и братья-ежата. Я должен вернуться к ним"
"Хорошо" — и девочка показала ему платочек, она вышила его специально для ёжика
Ёжик встал на платочек, который девочка взяла за концы, и понесла в лес
В лесу она нашла тот самый бугорок, на котором в первый раз увидела ёжика
Она положила платочек на бугорок, а сама скорее-скорее, чтобы не заплакать, побежала домой
Ёжик выбрался из платочка и побежал к своему дому. Теперь он хорошо помнил дорогу
А платочек унесла к себе в гнездо сорока

The Thoughtful Hedgehog

Do you know that the warm soft pillow
Which you have under your head at night is full of fairytales?
Oh no, you don't know?
"It is full of fluff?" — you will say
But after all this fluff is taken from birds, and birds — where they have not been!
Just think: these fluffs that they wore on themselves
Glittered in the sun, they were washed by rain and blown by the wind
And each such fluff, if it knows at least one fairytale
Then you will have enough fairytales for all nights until you grow up
Well, of course, because you grow more at night when you sleep
Pressing your cheek against a kind pillow

"Listen now to a fairytale about a hedgehog" — said the kind pillow
It was a thoughtful hedgehog, sad and a little strange
He stood on a hillock near a small Christmas tree and looked somewhere
He didn't even hear the girl come up and quietly reach out to him
He didn't have time to curl up into a prickly ball as her fingers had already embraced him
But since he was a little strange, he was not afraid, he only thoughtfully said

"It turns out that if you stand on a hillock, then not only you can see better, but you are also more visible"
"And what were you looking out for?" — the girl asked
"I got lost and wanted to find my house"
"Do you want me to put you back on the hillock? Try to search"
"No way" — said the strange hedgehog
"I have been standing on this hillock for a long time, but I can't find my house"
And then, when you want to take me with your bare hands another time
You may not succeed — I will pull my needles over myself"
"Do you want me to take you to my house?" — the girl asked
"Well" — sighed the hedgehog. This hedgehog knew how to sigh
"Your house is not my house, but it's still a house
And then, you have kind fingers" — he added
They hold me very carefully, affectionately"

The girl brought the hedgehog to her place, put it on a chair and asked
"And what should I feed you with? I have never had hedgehogs before, and I don't know what they eat"
"And I have never had hedgehogs" — said the strange hedgehog
"I would ask my mom what I should be fed, but I didn't know I was going to get lost"
"How strange you are!" — said the girl
"Yes, I am strange" — agreed the hedgehog
"I'm strange and... hungry" — he added and thought again
"So I'll give you the most delicious thing I have!" — said the girl
And she brought the hedgehog jam on a plate. The hedgehog smelled it and stepped aside
"No" — he said. "This is not what I eat. Please try to give me something else"

Then the girl brought him bread and butter. But the hedgehog smelled it and turned away
"No, this is not food for hedgehogs" — he said. "Maybe you can try to give me the most tasteless thing?"
"The most tasteless thing is, of course, the milk that my grandmother makes me drink"
The girl said and put a saucer of milk in front of the hedgehog
The hedgehog put his muzzle into the saucer and did not take it out of there until the saucer was empty
"If this delicious drink is called "milk"" — said the hedgehog
"Then I can only regret that your grandmother is not my grandmother"
"Never mind!" — said the girl. "She will be your grandmother too... that is... I didn't mean to say that
I wanted to say that my milk will be your milk too. I will gladly share it with you"

But the strange hedgehog did not rejoice for long. He again became thoughtful and even a little sad
"And how can I, so prickly, thank you? What can I do? I forgot to ask my mom about it"
"Oh, it doesn't matter at all!" — said the girl. "You are mine anyway, dear hedgehog!"
"Is that so?!" — the hedgehog was surprised. "I need to think about it some more"
And he climbed under the bed, and the girl went for a walk in the yard
When she came and began to wash the dishes, she was very surprised
Milk bottles, which are the hardest to wash, were already clean
"They are very easy to wash" — said the hedgehog. "You need to stretch as much as possible
Climb into the bottle, curl up into a ball, and jump in it a little, and then rinse it with clean water"

One night the girl, waking up, heard the hedgehog running around the room from corner to corner
And then he fiddled for a long time, snorted and rustled the paper
"Why aren't you sleeping?"
"I remembered the way to my house. There I have a mother hedgehog, a father hedgehog and brothers-hedgehogs. I must go back to them"
"Okay" — and the girl showed him the handkerchief, she embroidered it especially for the hedgehog
The hedgehog stood on the handkerchief, which the girl took by the ends and carried to the forest
In the forest, she found the very hillock on which she first saw the hedgehog
She put the handkerchief on the hillock, and she herself, as soon as possible, so as not to cry, ran home
The hedgehog got out of the handkerchief and ran to his house. Now he remembered the way well
And the magpie took the handkerchief to her nest
