Император

золотой цепочкой сомкнулись легионы вокруг неприступных гор.
Тысячи воинов, орудий, колесниц, гимны, знамёна - осада на измор.

Тяготит прошлое, тает настоящее, пугает грядущее.
И некому признаться, что ты-фаворит фортуны, побеждён одиночеством.
Некого обнять, не боясь, что оттолкнёт, нет искренности за ширмой почестей.
И вот он ещё совсем молодой лежал седой на смертном одре.
А его смерть, безучастная к величию царя, шипела на плече лютой коброй.
В последний миг он вспомнил того мудреца, посмотрев на раскалённое солнце.
И в тот же самый день, не мешкая, он сказал в тронном зале своим полководцам:
Я ухожу, и вот моя последняя воля:
когда скроется солнце за облаками, несите меня в последний путь на своих плечах с распростёртыми руками.
