Two Angels

Two angels fell down from the clouds,
Meeting on a bridge of white.
White leaves swirled them in a dance,
Leaving them frozen by the morning light.
With feathered fingers spread like fans in the mud,
Swallowing dust from the roadside,
They rose from their knees and walked among the people,
Stumbling through fields of feather grass, they stride.
The grasses sang to them of God and love,
People of sorrow and war's cruel hand.
And one said: "Brother, return above,
To tell our Father of this land."
Two angels, with one shared face,
Two angels, with one shared grace.
"Fly, tell him of their proud, defiant ways,
How the chains of Earth bind them tight.
But I shall stay here for now, come what may,
Lest they bring harm upon themselves in the night."
And so they parted, each accepting their fate,
Waving goodbye with a sigh.
And so he lives among us, among beasts great,
For two thousand years gone by.
And so we sit, shielding our faces from the fire,
With our own hands, hiding the light.
By the church, a bride and groom conspire,
The sky silent, the ring rusting in the night.
