И в голове один остался гимн
Я никогда не пел его другим
Теперь, когда погасли окна в доме
Когда деревья клонятся ко сну
Когда совсем темно на небосклоне
Я вспомнил вдруг мелодию одну –
Я сочинил ее тебе ко дню...
Когда одна мелодия из сотен
Скользит вдоль неизвестных берегов
Спешит сойти с классических полотен
Сбежать из этих рамок и холстов
Подняться выше туч и облаков
Я сам слагаю эти гимны
На рождение и на гибель
Чувствуя то радость, то вину
Я двигаюсь то в Космоса
То в мирового океана глубину...

Теперь, когда совсем тепло от чая
Теперь, когда что вторник, что среда
Теперь, когда стоишь в дверях, прощаясь
Еще не зная – может навсегда
И тут же исчезая без следа
Когда идешь домой под фонарями
Встречая тех, кто движется впотьмах
Давным-давно ушедших минными полями
И навсегда оставшихся в полях
Их имена и цифры на камнях
Теперь, когда что горы, что равнины
Когда всю ночь пытаешься уснуть
Земную жизнь пройдя до половины
Я до сих пор не знаю жизни суть –
Так веселей идти на Страшный суд
Я сам слагаю эти гимны
На рождение и на гибель
Чувствуя то радость, то вину
Я двигаюсь то в Космоса

Теперь настанет день и я отчалю
Настанет день – и мой остынет чай
Настанет день – я, как всегда, иду по краю
И, как всегда, чтоб заглянуть за край
Подняться выше, чем подъемный кран
Теперь настанет день и чай в стакане
Опять дымит до самого утра
Настанет день, я, как всегда, стою на грани
И, как всегда, чтоб заглянуть за грань
За гранью разглядеть Святой Грааль
Теперь настанет день давно забытый
Когда созвездия падают с высот
Настанет день шагнуть за горизонт событий
Чтоб первый раз увидеть горизонт
Так близко, чтобы ощутить озноб

Now, when the windows are dark in the house
When the trees are bowing to sleep
When the sky is completely dark
I suddenly remembered a melody –
I composed it for you for the day when...
When one melody out of hundreds
Glides along the unknown shores
Hurries to get off the classical canvases
To escape from these frames and canvases
To rise above the clouds
I myself compose these hymns
For birth and death
Feeling joy and guilt
I move into the Cosmos
Into the depths of the ocean...

Now, when it's warm from the tea
Now, when it's Tuesday or Wednesday
Now, when you stand at the doorway, saying goodbye
Not yet knowing – perhaps forever
And then disappearing without a trace
When you walk home under the streetlights
Meeting those who move in the darkness
Who long ago went through minefields
And forever remained in the fields
Their names and numbers on the stones
Now, when it's mountains or plains
When you try to fall asleep all night
Having lived half of my earthly life
I still don't know the meaning of life –
It's more fun to go to the Last Judgment
