Круг земной

Над широкой рекой, над осенней землей
Ветер с холодом летит, гонит тучи снеговые.
На озерах ставит лед, на болотах путь кладет,
С инеем и стужей зиму он ведет.
Далеко за лесами, под косматыми елями,
Под обрывом речным вьется к небу сизый дым.
Там живут лесовики, трое стары–старики,
Много лет зимуют под берегом реки.
Чтоб огонь не погас, каждый дров принес запас,
Стару избу подмели, бочку меда принесли.
Не боятся холодов, ни медведей, ни волков -
Тайное зимовье укрыло стариков.
В норы звери улеглись, в земле корни заплелись…
Не навек лежат снега,
Под снегами спят луга,
Солнце силу наберет —
Воду в реках отопрет,
Пробудит лес ото сна.
За зимой идет весна,
На смену весне с цветами —
Лето жаркое с плодами.
Год на зиму повернет —
Осень сменит в свой черед,
По полям ливмя дождем
К ночи длинной темной
В норы звери улеглись,
В земле корни заплелись,
Ветер зимний ледяной
Замыкает круг земной.

Earth's Circle

Over the wide river, over the autumn land,
The wind with cold flies, driving snow clouds.
On the lakes it sets ice, on the swamps it lays a path,
With frost and cold it leads winter.
Far beyond the forests, under shaggy firs,
Under the river cliff, gray smoke curls up to the sky.
There live the wood goblins, three old, old men,
For many years they winter under the river bank.
So that the fire does not go out, each brought a supply of firewood,
The old woman swept the hut, they brought a barrel of honey.
They are not afraid of the cold, neither bears nor wolves -
The secret winter hut sheltered the old men.
The beasts lay down in their burrows, roots intertwined in the ground…
The snows do not lie forever,
Meadows sleep under the snow,
The sun will gain strength —
It will unlock the water in the rivers,
Awaken the forest from sleep.
Spring follows winter,
To replace spring with flowers —
Hot summer with fruits.
The year will turn to winter —
Autumn will change in its turn,
Through the fields with pouring rain
To the long dark night
The beasts lay down in their burrows,
Roots intertwined in the ground,
The icy winter wind
Closes the Earth's circle.
