While here beyond the Sundering Seas now fall the Elven-tears.

O Lorien! The Winter comes, the bare and leafless Day;
The leaves are falling in the stream, the River flows away.
O Lorien! Too long I have dwelt upon this Hither Shore
And in a fading crown have twined the golden elanor.

But if of ships I now should sing, what ship would come to me,
What ship would bear me ever back across so wide a Sea?

Ich sang von Blättern, Blättern von Gold, und Blätter von Gold entsprossen:

In Elbenheim, bei Tirions Mauern, der Stadt der Elben so fein.
Dort wuchsen lange die goldnen Blätter in den verzweigten Jahren,
Doch hier jenseits der Trennenenden Meere fallen nun Elben-Tränen.

O Lórien! Der Winter naht, der kahle, blätterlose Tag;
Die Blätter fallen in den Strom, der Fluss trägt sie davon, es plagt.
O Lórien! Zu lang weilte ich an diesem Diesseitsstrand
Und flocht in eine schwindend' Krone das elanor-Gold mit der Hand.

Doch sänge ich jetzt von Schiffen nun, welch Schiff kommt wohl zu mir her,
Welch Schiff trüg' mich zurück jemals über solch weites Meer?
