בְּאֵלֶה הַיָּדַיִם עוֹד לֹא בָּנִיתִי כְּפַר
עוֹד לֹא מָצָאתִי מַיִם בְּאֶמְצַע הַמִּדְבָּר.
עוֹד לֹא צִיַּרְתִּי פֶּרַח, עוֹד לֹא גִילִיתִי אֵיךְ
תּוֹבִיל אוֹתִי הַדֶּרֶךְ וּלְאָן אֲנִי הוֹלֵךְ.

אַי-
עוֹד לֹא אָהַבְתִּי דַי,
הָרוּחַ וְהַשֶּׁמֶשׁ עַל פָּנַי.
אַי-
עוֹד לֹא אָמַרְתִּי דַי,
וְאִם לֹא אִם לֹא עַכְשָיו
אֵימָתַי?

עוֹד לֹא שָׁתַלְתִּי דֶשֶא, עוֹד לֹא הֵקַמְתִּי עִיר

אֲנִי עוֹד לֹא כָתַבְתִּי אֶת זִכְרוֹנוֹתַי
וְעוֹד לֹא בָנִיתִי לִי אֶת בֵּית חֲלוֹמוֹתַי

וְאַף עַל פִּי שֶאַתְּ פֹּה, וְאַתְּ כֹּל־כָּךְ יָפָה,
מִמֵּךְ, אֲנִי בּוֹרֵחַ כְּמוֹ מִמַּגֵּפָה:
עוֹד יֵש הַרְבֵּה דְּבָרִים שֶׁרָצִיתִי לַעֲשׂוֹת-
אַתְּ בֶּטַח תִּסְלְחִי לִי גַּם בַּשָּנָה הַזֹּאת-
תּבִינִי-

With these hands I have not yet built a village
I have not yet found water in the midst of the desert.
I have not yet drawn a flower, I have not yet discovered how
The path will lead me and where I am going.
