הרדופים

לא נפרח כבר פעמיים, והרוח על המים,
יפזר דממה צוננת על פנינו החיוורות
שמה בין איבי הנחל, בשעה אחת נשכחת,
זכרונות אזוב שלנו מתרפקים על הקירות.

בלי תוגה, כפופי צמרת, בלוריות שיבה נבדרת
באשר יפות התואר, בין שריקות העדרים.
תפנוקי גוון ירטיטו, בלכתן לרחוץ בזרם
נכלמים נשפיל עיננו, אל המים הקרירים.

לא נוסיפה עוד לנוע, משתאים נביט ברוח
איך הוא יחד עם המים, מפרקים את הסלעים.
תאנה חנטה פגיה, והנשר היגע -
אל קינו חזר בחושך מדרכי האלוהים.

הרדופים שלי, כמוני, וכמוך שכל ימייך,
את פרחי האור שלנו את פיזרת לכל רועה.
לא עופות מרום אנחנו, ואל גובה השמיים,
גם אתם, גם אנוכי - לא נגיע כנראה.

רק בהר על קו הרכס מישהו מוסיף ללכת,
מן הואדי והאבן, לרכסים, אל הרוחות.
עד אשר בכסות הערב, יחזור נוגה אלייך,
עם פכפוך פלגים, עם רחש הרדופים ליד החוף.

The Haunted

We will not bloom twice, and the wind on the waters,
Will spread a cold silence over our pale faces
There, among the river's enemies, in one forgotten hour,
Our memories of hyssop cling to the walls.

Without sorrow, stooped of stature, gray forelocks adrift
Where the beautiful ones are, among the whistles of the herds.
Delights of color will tremble, as they go to bathe in the stream
Ashamed, we will lower our eyes, to the cool waters.

We will not move any more, we will gaze in astonishment at the wind
How it, together with the water, dismantles the rocks.
A fig tree has ripened its fruit, and the weary eagle -
Returned to its nest in the darkness from the ways of God.

My haunted one, like me, and like you all your days,
You have scattered the flowers of our light to every shepherd.
We are not birds of the sky, and to the height of the heavens,
Neither you nor I - we will probably not reach.

Only on the mountain on the ridge line does someone continue to walk,
From the wadi and the stone, to the ridges, to the winds.
Until in the evening's cloak, a glow will return to you,
With the babble of streams, with the murmur of the haunted ones by the shore.
