The Town Where Love Has Died

There's someone passed out like they collapsed on the street
We look at them once, but quickly look away and pass by
Everyone's protecting themselves, afraid they might end up in misery
And they can't even bring themselves to give love because it seems foolish
A stupid crowd of people
I'm also in that anxious state of uncertainty
I'm just barely making it through each day as it is; I don't have the emotional bandwidth
I have no money or power, so what can I possibly do?
Like everyone else, all I really care about
Is my own future
The town where love has died; has it always been this way?
It's too early for me to accept that as the norm
I want to find it, I want to find that light of love
That's why I hate how people throw around the word "love"
Because nobody really knows what it means
A man and a woman, their hearts and bodies united
They lose their way in a labyrinth of yearning
And collapse, it's plain to see
They're also in that same anxious state of uncertainty
They believe that pledging and keeping their love is everything
But in this world where they can't even raise children
What kind of love can they possibly nurture?
Oh! Right here, right now
The town where love has died; has it always been this way?
It's too early for me to accept that as the norm
